The Sun & The Moon

After much debate we finally chose a name for our new foster. We decided to call her Sol.
Picking a name was much harder than I anticipated. We would look at her, shout out a suggestion, look at her again, then give a nay. Nothing really seemed to fit her. We eventually narrowed down a list of names that we liked and one evening just before bed we decided on the name Molly. She was named Molly for about 30 minutes while we were awake that night and for about the 7 hours we were asleep. However, when we woke up we soon realized that our friend’s parents have a dog name Molly. We didn’t want to “copy” so we set out to find a new name for our sweet, little foster.
After going through a dozen more name choices we finally chose Sol. Why Sol you ask? Well, the obvious reason is that Sol in Spanish means sun, and the new little girl certainly is a ray of sunshine, but Luna in Spanish means moon. So, if we named her Sol, we would have the sun and the moon.
While that reasoning is all well and good, it was the main reason we weren’t going to name her Sol. Sol was a name that was thrown into the hat almost immediately. But, we always dismissed it because we shouldn’t give her a name that pairs her up with Luna if we really intended to live up to our foster parent duties and send her to a forever home one day.
But, we just couldn’t help it. The name Sol just kept coming up and no other name really seemed to fit. You can look at her and tell she has many years of pug wisdom under her belt and I think the name Sol helps convey that. She is most definitely an “Old Soul”.
So for now, at least, we have the moon and the sun all resting easy at our house.

you can tell that she’s already fully integrated!
you guys are doing a good job.
I think I would be a terrible fosterparent. I would want to keep every fosterpug!
I would end up with a whole pugfarm!
What an absolutely perfect name for an absolutely perfect little lady…It looks as though Miss Luna is certainly enjoying having a new gal pal…So happy to hear all is going well…I’m dying to see more pics of all of them together!!!! Welcome home Sol…we all love you already!
She’s looks so happy and relaxes. If I wasn’t about to have a baby I’d love to foster as well, but then my problem would definitely be letting go.
Welcome, Miss Sol! You look so relaxed lounging with Miss Luna.
PS (thanks for the 7hrs& 30mins she was named Miss Molly)
Good name, good photo!
“Doing Now”...that’s because poor Sol hasn’t had the constant doting that the others have. She’s just grateful to have a warm place to rest her head and people and puggies to love her…SOB…I don’t even want to think about her life before…So grateful for you Corrine!!!
What a beautiful name for a beautiful girl!! She looks very relaxed; which means she knows she’s in a safe, loving home now. Great picture too!
With the Luna(moon) and Sol(sun)in your home-all thats left are the stars-all 4 pugs Henry,Benjamin, Luna & Sol! Loking forward to their pics doing all the wonderful puggie things they do! Bless you for this wonderful site!
I think you picked the perfect name for her.
Of course I am partial to the name Molly, we
have a pit bull mix that was dumped at our
house 3 years ago. We named her Molly. She
thinks she is a pug. Much happiness to you
and your precious pug family
Miss Sol is a very comfortable soul, and that is a credit to you guys. She has really fit in with the gang. I took my daughter-in-law to Bob Evans today and thought of the puggies as I ordered pumpkin bread and fruit bowl. I almost ordered “pugkin” bread.
Love the name!
I had to come back and add that I’ve just found myself singing the song “You Are My Sunshine”, and it must because of Sol!
Awww….she is adorable and love her new name. Seems to has settled in nicely….
I think she’s precious and I love the name.
Sol is sweet. When I first saw her picture I thought She could have been Luna’s Mum (Canadian for MOM lol)they look so much alike. We are so happy she found you. I love her name, but I would call her Sunny because I think it is easier to say, for me. She’s going to bring you luck in 2009.
Much love to Miss Solly! She looks very comfortable and now with the sun and the moon in your home, you have it all!
Teary-eyed. It’s a beautiful name.
You’re doing a wonderful thing for that little angel.
The name is perfect. I’m glad she is fitting in and hope the adjustment keeps going well for everyone!
I’m gonna miss you all! C.J., Toeby, the grands and I are headed to the coast for 4 days, searching for the sun (Sol)! I cannot wait to get back already though and hear more stories about the OBP crew and most especially, the newby, Miss Sol!
Take care all!
Karen B, have fun and be careful.
Corrine, all your decorations are pug coordinated, fawn pug coordinated that is. What are you going to do with the black now?
Sol is a beautiful name for a beautiful young lady-pug!
I’m glad to see that she’s resting comfortably on the sacred sofa! Hopefully the “pecking order” has been established and all are getting along well.
Sol is a lovely name. So pastoral; so innocent. I can’t help but think, however, that when you name in pairs, it sounds very much like a permanent arrangement.
Sol e Luna - won’t it be terribly difficult to go back to just Luna? From what I know about your mothering instincts, I’m betting that you won’t let her go. I, for one, hope she’s already found her forever home. She’s one lucky little gal.
Thanks Sue VDB-We found the SOL! It was beautiful weather-wise. Today, back at work in the notorious Valley fog!!!
