Surgery Anniversary

One year ago today, Sol had surgery to remove the gingival pappillary (verrucous) squamous cell carcinoma in her lower right jaw. The decision to have the surgery was one we agonized over. The main reason for our indecision was that we didn't know very much about Sol. We had only had her for a few months and the only thing we knew was that she was on the older side. Exactly how old, we weren't sure. Her previous medical history was a mystery. Our only real concern was would undergoing such a serious surgery be beneficial to Sol's quality of life. Would Sol be able to adjust to having up to half of her jaw removed?
In the end we went with our gut feeling and I am so happy we made the decision we did. The time it took for Sol to adjust to her new jaw was minimal and I never could have imagined that she would recover as quickly as she did.
Granted, there have been lots of other bumps this past year, but I can say that Sol's oral cancer has not been one of those things. She is a trooper and I am very happy to be able to celebrate this milestone with her.

I can’t believe Sol has been around so long, it seems she just showed up a few days ago. Such a gorgeous old lady she is, and what an asset to your group. She’s definitely not had an easy go, but now she rules the roost
You are both so lucky to have found each other!

I’m so happy to share a great milestone with Sol, too! She’s a wonderful little girl, and so full of pug-love!!
Heather, have a great day tomorrow! Give little Cole a big welcome from Bennie and me, too!
Oh Sol…we are so happy for you and your family….and that includes ALL of us out here in OBP world.
While I look forward to seeing ALL the beautiful pugs on OBP my heart goes out to Sol. She seems to know she is in a forever home and loved by all.
I print Sol’s pictures out, they are the backdrop in GiGi’s corner. She seems to notice each one. While I love pugs of any and all ages, the last 20 years I have only had older pug rescues. (Be 70 years soon).
It is wonderful adopting an older pug, wish all could add one to their world. We have had GiGi in our life for awhile now. She is between 12-15…vet not sure…but a real clown who loves tummie rubs, sleeping on her special bed, playing with Gwen and is great company for this old lady..Grannie Pug.
Bless you all at OBP Pugs.
I didnt know about owned by pugs till last spring sometime but there has not been a day I miss it now I look foward to the beautiful pictures and you corrine for sharing all the antics of the pugs it is a bright spot of my day Heather I want to wish you and bax a safe trip I will say a prayer everything goes well I am so very happy for you and Cole I really didnt know much about pug rescue untill about a year ago I have five pugs two of them didnt come from a rescue but I adopted them abby was used for breeding then tossed a side and oliver was a stray covered in fleas skin and bone and had heartworm but it will be a year in June I have had oliver and what a change in him such a sweet loving boy and Abby I have had her 3 years now and she is so sweet and loving and no more babies for her hope everyone has a great weekend
Congratulations to you and Sol. She’s a very lucky girl to have found such a caring family and you are indeed lucky to have found such a precious bundle of joy! Here’s to many more years of health and happiness with all of your OBP family. You are most deserving!
Sol’s experience just screams how resilient our fur babies are…They are here for certain reasons, to enhance our lives with love and to be loved and would never let a “little” thing like having half a jaw removed get in the way of that mission! They are such devoted little creatures! Happy anniversary, Miss Sol and here’s to a happy, healthy THIS year! You are loved!
Heather and Bax, travel safely, don’t drive faster than your guardian angel can fly, and come home with that new “bundle”! I can NOT wait to see pictures and hear all about it!
A happy and blessed weekend to all!!
I can’t believe it has been a year already!! Sol bounced back so quickly from the surgery.
Yes the pugs were a lot of fun to watch and so fast! All three kind of yipped during their performance. Unfortunatly i wasn’t quick enough to get a clear shot of them doing the jumps.
Kudos for precious Sol! I can’t believe it’s been a year since we were all waiting to exhale after your surgery. I’m so glad you are such a little trooper
You are an angel, sweet Sol.
Heather, you are welcome! I meant every word of it. I bet you have the hour count down going until you pick up Cole. I’m so very excited for you and Baxter. Have a safe, fun trip. Can’t wait to hear about little Cole.
Doing Now - I’m with you Corrine, I don’t feed Purina either…too many “bad” ingredients, but I do love their commercials. They are the best.
