Sol’s First Swim
On Saturday, after hitting the gym and working hard in the yard, the pool was looking mighty nice. So we drug out all the pool toys and the life vests and spent some time splashing around. The boys were having a good time running around and playing tug with the toys. Henry was his usual self, fetching everything out of the pool. But for Sol, this was the first time anyone has ever been in the pool. So we of course had to see how she liked the pool.
She swam quite well with her vest on. She was a little splashy with her front paws which led to a little extra water getting on her face, but all in all she did a very good job. We were very careful to make sure she did not overdo it on the swimming.
While Sol was fine with swimming, way less nervous than Benjamin & Luna, but not as relaxed as Henry, her absolute favorite thing to do was be held and enjoy the cool water. We took turns holding and floating around with her and she was in her glory! I think we may have to resurrect the pug tug.
I managed to get two short videos of Henry and Sol in action before the batteries in the camera died. First up is Henry and then there is a short video of Sol swimming.

Oh my, swimming time. Henry really is a good little swimmer, and Sol, oh Sol, you really do splash a lot, but seem to enjoy swimming. Yeah for Sol.
I never tire of seeing your gang swim…so awesome that it is part of their lives! Henry is such an amazing little swimmer! And Miss Sol, you did great for your first time in the deep end!!! Way to go!
I just saw on Doing Now that Sol got honorable mention for cutest pug with the picture of her in her pouch. We knew she was beauty contest material. Go Sol, go.
Go Mama’s go!
Who knew that Sol was the next Esther Williams?? Now I am going to be saying, “pugs in da pool” all day today.
My son (who turned 2 today) absolutely LOVES watching all of the videos that you take! He giggles and says “one more time!” every time we watch them!
Thank you!
Ok, Henry cracks me up! That little pug tail is going so fast and cleaning out the pool of all the toys. I think he was a lifeguard in a previous life!
And little Miss Sol, she is adorable and she did a great job for her first time. A little splashing is ok, she’s already wet, so what’s a bit more water, right???
So adorable. Move over Michael Phelps! Pugs really do love to swim, don’t they? We’re in the process of moving to a home with a lovely swimming pool and would love to see Rocky, Adrian and Gulliver try their paws at swimming. Would you please offer a suggestion as to what life jacket would be the best and safest for our three little guys?
I can’t believe Sol only got honorable mention! She is far more adorable than that! That picture is still on my desktop because it makes me smile every time I see it!
What a great couple of videos! I love watching your puggies swim. Wow, Henry is such a great swimmer, isn’t he?
What fun! Sol did a great job!! Henry is going to have to swim in the Pug-olympics!
Love, love, love the videos! Sol did wonderful on her first swim. That will be great from her joints too
Henry is a natural born swimmer! Just too cute!
Very cute, Henry really books around!
I was wondering how the fundraiser for Baby Jax is coming along? I sent a donation in, I know every bit helps. I sure hope he is able to recieve his surgery.
Rebecca, I just went on the CFPR web site, and it says they have raised $2,123 of the $4,000 needed. If you want to keep tabs go to centralfloridapugrescue.org. Little Jax is featured on their page.
The pugs must have had a splashing good time if they were all snoring this morning. I can only imagine the sound of 4 snoring puggies.
I have watched the swimming videos several times. Henry really tickles me with his good swim form and his little tail wagging. Little Solsie and her splashing makes me smile.
Henry are such good swimmers! And I’m so proud of the Queen of Sol for diving right in and giving it a try! Not too shabby for an older gal!
We had a pool in the old house, but the Pugs didn’t like to swim. BamBam would sit on the top step and cool off, but that’s as far as he would go.
Ginger loves the water! We have a wading pool for her that she loves to play in on the warm days.
Pugs swimming look an awful lot like pugs drowning…but not.
When we had a pool we got one of those floaters for toddlers that have the cloth attached and holes cut out for the legs and our pug sat in it and paddled all around it supported him and he didn’t tire so soon. He loved it! Black pugs especially seem to like cooling off in the pool!
