Open Door Policy
If you want to get the pugs' attention around here, close a door to a room in the house. It doesn't matter which one. It can be any room you like. A room that they don't even go in much, but when the door is closed rest assured that you will have four pugs standing there staring at the closed door looking like their best friend is locked on the other side.
And don't, ever, EVER close the bathroom door. A closed door to the bathroom surely means that mom is sneaking out a secret passageway and will never return. NEVER!

Know that door one as all mine don’t like that especially the bathroom door my one mainly my noah he’ll hit at the door and head butt it and bark so i have to let them in as the others will bark but,i don’t want noah to hurt his head.Those peeking eyes do get to you.
Corrine, awesome photography in this one!! (Well, in all of them actually). It is the same in this house, *especially* the bathroom door. When guests mistakenly close the bathroom door (didn’t they read the house rules?) all hell breaks loose and it sounds like there are a pack of wolves on the other side of the door…when it’s just lil’ old Baxter!

Baxter and I want to share our news with you all…
When Riley first passed and people asked if I was getting “another one”, I was so offended and thought, “how can they think that Riley can be replaced so easily?!”...
As time went on and I witnessed Baxter mourning for his brother, his sidekick he had known for 11 of his 12 years to be his constant, my heart crumbled a little more every day, just when I thought it couldn’t break any further.
Riley will never, ever be replaced…He was momma’s baby and a precious, one-of-a-kind soul that I will yearn for for all of my days…
In time I began to realize that opening my heart to another pugga didn’t mean I was grieving any less or trying to replace my little boy, it just meant that I had more pug love to give to a deserving boy or girl in need…So…
With all that said, Baxter and I are taking a pretty big road trip on Saturday to bring Cole, a 2.5 year old fawn, perfectly healthy little boy, to his forever home!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Congratulations Heather! Riley will always be your boy! Can’t wait to hear about Cole. Best of luck!
Wonderful thinking Heather. You will be surely blessed. And it goes without saying how blessed Cole is. He’s probably packing his puggy backpack as we type.
Pug Hug
Oh Heather That is great news!! No, our precious fur-babies can’t be replaced- each one is special in their own way. Another fur baby comes into our lives to love us and be loved. Now, as for our peeping pugs-Beauty whimmpers if she encounters a closed door-it is so pitiful as if she thinks her people have disappeared! Then she thinks of ways to get into trouble so a closed door is not an option!
Heather, how wonderful for you and Baxter, and an amazing blessing for Cole.

Laughter is good for the soul, and my soul is happy this morning as I see the “peeping pug” and read this story. Not all the time, but at times I have the same trouble with the bathroom door.
Heather, congratulations on adopting Cole. I know Cole will be loved and I’m sure Baxter will be happy to have a little brother again. Riley will never be replaced, but he has opened up your heart to give another little pug the love he deserves. Please keep us posted on your new addition.

Guess I got ahead of myself. At first I thought today was Friday, and of course it is not. Guess getting another year old makes you more forgetful, lol.
Congratulations Heather! It’s been just over a year since I took a long road trip and brought home our first (and only) pug Sadie. Can’t wait to hear about him and I’m not sure of the rules, but can we see a picture of him??

Haaaaaaaaaaaa, this is my reality too with Tina! Tina will sit by the door and do her monkey whine trying to get me to open the bathroom for her…heaven help us all if she actually had to open it herself:D

Beth, I’ve often thought it would be cool if the OBP Extended Family could swap pics somehow…I’m not the most “techy” person though…Anyway, I would love to share a photo. I will email one of Baxter and his new brother to Corrine and maybe she can email to all the regulars??? Just an idea…and hope I’m not overstepping bounds suggesting such a thing!

I love the picture of the peeking my group will not allow me to close any doors Heather I am so happy for you and Baxter getting a new baby brother we never replace our babies but you can make room in your heart for more babies Cole will be very lucky to have a loving mommy and new older brother please let us know how the trip went and all about cole would love to see a picture of him

Heather, congratulations on your upcoming adoption of Cole. You said it so well, Riley can never be replaced, but we do have room in our hearts for more love. Especially for a rescue that is in need of a forever home. Please do send pictures

Bennie has a very firm rule about closed doors. The rule is he should never be outside of them. He will not bend that rule even for company! Last week I had a neighborhood get-together with about 12 ladies, all of whom had to get used to the idea of a pug accompanying them into the bathroom.
Heather, CONGRATULATIONS! And, nobody could ever take Riley’s place in your heart. But Cole will just wriggle on in and make his own special place in your heart just for him!!!! This is great news, and I’m so happy for you!

I keep wondering…is his foster mom talking about me and Bax…is she getting him excited for his new life…I know I would be if I was her…and secretly I really hope we are the topic of conversation for Cole the next couple of days…
I just keep wondering how it will feel..what his reaction will be…what Baxter’s experience will be. 12 (and 11) years ago, when I got Baxter and Riley…I went the breeder route. It was important for me to get “pure” pugs in pristine health…knowing where they came from. My how 12 years educates…I’m still a Pug Purist (no mixes here), but my heart just yearns to rescue…and to do beautiful things like you, Corrine, and so many others do…to create a new reality for a pug that deserves nothing but the best…and to make up for their lost time in bad circumstances.
Corrine, please know that you are an inspiration to me…these years following you and Henry, Ben, Luna…and now Sol…they made a difference in my heart, mind and soul. Cole thanks you.

As a foster mom (not Cole’s, but to many others), I can tell you that you are ABSOLUTELY the topic of converstation. His foster mom (or family) is happy for Cole that his new perfect forever home has come along. She will be thrilled and excited for him to start this wonderful, new chapter of his life…the rest of his life. She will be happy that someone else is already in love with him too and she will be happy to share his love with you. She will be a little sad too, but she will know that she prepared Cole for you and that he will be able to handle the transition smoothly. She will know that she did right by Cole and by letting him be adopted, she will have the chance to help another pug in need. You are doing a great thing by adopting him and you are doing rescue work.
PS, keep in mind for the future that even if you are not able to foster, many rescue groups have a great need for many types of volunteers to do a variety of things.

I have a good friend who fosters for our local Humane Society. She rejoices for her babies and she absolutely tells them about going to their new families! I’m sure Cole is precious to his foster family, and they are thrilled to have their special little Cole going to his forever home!
And as a matter of fact, you and Cole have been the topic of conversation in our home! I’d previously told my husband about everything you went through, and now he’s so happy for you too!
Like many of you, when I first got my Pug five years ago, I was a pure-from-the-breeder buyer. Then I got Abby, the love of my life but mistakenly the benefit of a backyard breeder (I shudder to think what would have happened to her had I got gotten her). I would and will do anything for her.
However, having read and pondered the messages from you all about rescues, I see that it the only way I can morally go. Perhaps I can help (and put my tender feelings aside).
This site is an absolute blessing to all of us and I don’t know how Corrine can do it all, run a business and inspire everyone.

Hi All! SUch great comments, I had to add one more-what lucky puggies to have rescuers in our midst-we got Beauty from a couple who bred their Lillie with love and care-only 2 litters and after the litter Beauty is from, Lillie was spade. Beauty just got her yearly Birthday wish from her gramma and mommy(she’s in her terrible two’s mode!!) this too takes a special person to be respectful of life and not to use a dog as a puppy mill for profit! We too, will only breed Beauty once and keep one of her pups. I cna hardly wait to here about Cole and Bax and see pictures of them playing enjoying the love and good life of a loving family! Heather, I’m tuning in a bit late but wanted to add my heartfelt congrats on your adoption! Sadly, Riley is irreplaceable, yes, but we ALWAYS have enough love to carry on and make a difference for another that is in need of our love! Cole will be a wonderful addition to your family and I hope and pray that it helps mend your broken heart(s)! Much love to you, Baxter and Cole! C.J. is a door peeker…He will sit and stare through the crack in the door much like Mr. Henry. I usually slide the door open and let him come in to “supervise”. After all, it is his place to keep track of me, right?
