More Snakes
So the snake saga continues. I see my friend the black racer a few times each week. I can’t be 100% sure that it is the same snake, but I like to tell myself that we only have one. However, this guy in the picture is definitely not a black racer. I found him in the gutter in front of my house and as soon as I saw him the little rhyme, “red on yellow can kill a fellow” popped into my head. I looked him up in a little book that I have and I believe it is a coral snake.
Other than that, I have spotted a grayish snake in the backyard as well. He was very hard to spot because it looked like he was trying to go under ground. I’m not exactly sure what was going on.
As you can tell, I don’t really know that much about snakes. I’m not really sure why we have so many either. We do have a lot of frogs, so I guess they are here for them.
They just make me a little nervous because it seems like we are always stumbling upon one. I guess, I am going to have to read up on snakes and other Florida wildlife so that I am just more prepared.

As much as I love snakes and have adopted a “live and let live” attitude about them, this little guy would be deadly to the pugs…and to you!...would would be better off relocated to a nice wilderness area. Call you local animal control or serpentarium or zoo the next time you see him. They should help with relocation…and may also have need of his venom for research purposes. As for the gray fellow…can’t really tell what his status is without seeing him….just observe at a distance…and definitely back off fast if he has a triangular head!
Thanks, Ann. I was hoping to hear from you on this! I’m not really sure what we have going on in our yard, but I think it is time we have someone come check it out. I think some of our critters will need to be relocated. I’m not for putting down poison or any of that kind of stuff because it makes me too nervous around the pugs. I’m just glad that I have a camera with a good zoom because we don’t get anywhere near these guys. Although, Henry and I came way too close to the coral snake. We were just going for a walk and stepped off the curb and there he was. Luckily, we didn’t step right over him and we didn’t seem to startle him. Henry didn’t even notice the snake and I quickly got him back into the house and out of harms way. I will keep everyone updated on what we do. In the meantime, we will be going to the library soon so that we can get familiar with all these snakes.

I think you are very brave. I’d be the one relocating, not the snakes!
i am pretty sure that snake was not poisonous, because he was yellow on red, not red on yellow, but i am prolly wrong… yeah. you should do reserch!
That snake is definitly a coral snake. Coral snakes are the most venemous snake in the country. People think things lke eastern diamondback rattlesnake and stuff, but the coral snake has the most toxic venom of all the snakes in the country. You dont need to worry about him much as they are not aggressive. If you do pick him up, which you should never do, and he does bite you, pull him off imediatly. They are backed fanged, meaning the fangs are located in the back of the mouth, and they have to chew for a bit to inject the venom.
If you see him again, just get a stick, and a burlap, or cloth bag and relocate him. And your pugs are not really in any danger as the coral snake will hide when if feels any threat approaching. As for the grey snake, if you see it again, take a picture of it, and post it.

That was a dumb thing to say as red on yellow or yellow on red is the same. You are saying the most venemous snake in the country is not venemous. sorry if I was a little harsh, but imagine if someone read that and did pick up a coral snake and got bit and invenomated. Do you see where I am getting at.
