Going Gray

I have a question for all you pug lovers out there. When did your pugs start to go gray? Little Luna is about 4 years old, but as you can see her face is already very gray. The boys, on the other hand, are 5 years old and have a lot less gray. However, I did notice little bits of gray creeping in on their chins when they were about 2 years old. Right now, the are primarily gray on their chins with a little bit of gray on their face.

My little Daisy is just over a year old and has really started graying on her chin and around her mouth in the last few months. She’s growing up too fast!!
My Bentley started going gray on his chin area when he was 2.
Sofie is almost 3 and she doesn’t have any gray yet, but I am sure it is coming!
My little Genevieve is 5 now and she has really started to turn gray. Our black pug,
Luke, is solid black and he will be 5 next
month. No gray at all. Maybe it is in female
pug genes that they turn gray early.
Napoleon started to get gray on his chin around the age of 2 but it has stayed just on his chin.
No grays on our 3-year old Angel, yet.
Pugly started getting little gray hairs on his chin around his 1rst birthday. Poor baby.
Ruby started getting white hairs on her chin first, then in her ears, and in a small stripe on her tail (just a smattering but in a line) after she turned three. She is 4 now. I don’t think the addition of white hairs or “greying” always means age in pugs.
My Lucy always had a white spot on the bottom of her chin and we had her since 8 weeks old. It has seemed to be growing though and she’s now 2. Tuffy on the other hand has no grey at all. Maybe it is a female thing.
Neither Roy (3) nor Gwen (2) have any gray yet. We’ve met some pugs who had a little gray on their chins before age 2.
Rocky started turning grey when he was about 3 (he just turned 5 this month). It started on his little chinny-chin-chin and has crept up to his cheeks this past year. A distinguished look for sure. Adrian, however, just started greying,or as she calls it, “shadowing” (a true princess would never admit to going grey!)about 8 months ago. We’re thinking about “Loving Care”
Porterhouse has been gray since 3.5/4 years old. His face is mostly gray now (6), even his eyelashes are gray!
My Abbey is not gray at all, especially since she is only 9 months old. Have you ever considered that Luna’s gray might be due to her stressful life before she found you? Maybe pugs are a little like humans (besides the obvious), they turn gray as a result of stress. Just something to think about…
My little girl just turned 5 this past June. She had a few gray hairs on her chin by the time she was 3. She now has quite a bit of gray in her muzzle but none on her ears at all like some pugs get. My daughter’s pug is 6 years old and his face is almost completely white. We just adopted a little male pug in July who is supposed to be 4 years old and he has absolutely no gray anywhere. Go figure. I think pugs must be like humans. Some people gray young and others aren’t gray even when they’re old.
my four fawn pugs started to get gray around the face at 3 years old my black pug started to turn gray around the face at 2 and he has a gray hair here and there on his body
My 5 month old black pug is getting lighter fur on his tail, and on two different spots right where his shoulders are… So weird!??? His mama is a fawn and his dad Is solid black 2 year old…. So I’m guessing it could be the fawn genes coming out? Even though they’re more grey than blonde…. Why is this!!?? I’d love to know!
Our pug is almost completely white on his face except for a little rectangle “mustache” and soul patch. He’s a rescue so I’m not sure on his exact age, maybe 9? He’s gone grey very quickly in the last year.
Does anyone have a pug, that is the usual loveable, stubborn, and MOST of the time a wonderful dog, but FREAKS OUT when you need to leave? Tuffie looses it!!! He is completely bonkers, out of his mind, like I’m leaving forever. It got to the point that I decided (after many discussions with my vet) to put him on small doses of Trazadone daily…doesn’t r help. The Thunder Jacket (or what ever it is) is a nightmare trying to get it on, and we have been thru training classes (which you’d think he was a show dog he minds so well…until I get home and try to leave). Any suggestions???
