Dislocated
Benny Update: Sorry for the delay in getting a Benny update posted. We took Benny in to see our normal vet today and get another check on his shoulder. The good news is that everything looks good. Our regular vet had a look at Benny's x-rays and said his bones look strong and joints look great. His shoulder popping out of place was more than likely just a fluke.
Other than his trip to the vet, Benny mainly rested. While his shoulder is back in place, he is still very sore. He has a little bit of limp, but mainly he is just tired and groggy. The hardest part for me is seeing his tail uncurled. It just breaks my heart.
For the next 5 days we need to restrict his activity. Which, so far, hasn't been that hard. He has been happy resting on his pile of pillows. Hopefully, tomorrow he will be a bit less sore.
Thanks for all your support! We appreciate all your kind wishes for Benny!
Last night on our walk, Benny dislocated his shoulder. How he did it we are not exactly sure. He was walking out of the grass to the sidewalk and the next thing we know his arm is at a 90 degree angle to his body. He was howling in pain and we got him to the emergency vet as quickly as possible.
When we arrived at the emergency vet, he got a rush of adrenaline and managed to pop his shoulder back in place. This made things better, but he was still pretty uncomfortable. He was pretty restless in the evening as well.
I will keep you updated as best I can.

Poor Baby Bennie, that is very painful. Rest well sweetie, and hope this is an isolated incident. Hugs and kisses.
Poor Baby Bennie! I dislocated my shoulder back in September, and I’m still in healing mode, so my thoughts go out to the little guy. Perhaps he will be better at doing his physio that I am, though….
poor benny boy, hope all will be okay. sending your pugs and kisses.
Little Benny, I am so sorry. Be sure to milk this for extra love and treats though. Feel better soon.
Oh, no, Bennie. I’ll bet you were soooo scared. I’m glad it fixed itself and hope that was the last time Mom needs to report this sad event.
Oh no! You all had to be so scared. I hate it when our “babies” are in pain or not feeling well. You are all in my thoughts and prayers.

Oh no! Poor Benny. :( Give the little man a kiss on his delicious wrinkles for me.
I was so sad to hear about Baby Benny hurting himself. It is so sad when they are in pain. I hope he gets back to his Benny self soon!
Oh No!!! Poor Benny! I bet that ironed out his wrinkles for awhile. Jade, Corey and I will be sending good thoughts for a quick recovery his way!
When I saw the “Dislocated” tag, that was immediately what came to mind…I work in a medical clinic so naturally that’s where my brain is…
Wow, for his shoulder to just spontaneously dislocate…that’s strange. I hope he’s okay, those are soooo painful. I will be thinking of you today!
Poor baby boy Benny..hope with lots of extra love and special treats you will be better really fast. Bet Bro and Sis will suffer with you and help keep you warm.

Poor Benny!!! I hope is feeling better soon!! I hope he gets lots of treats!!
Poor thing!
My first thought, like many of you, was a loud, “Oh no, not Benny”, but we don’t want either of the other two misfortune either. Let’s all hold paws and say prayers or positives for Benny. Did the vet have any idea what caused that to happen? Pug hugs and smooooooooooooches from the Swamp Pugs.
Jennifer - I really enjoyed your comment!
Corrine, I’m dying here!! Any update on Benny yet??
@ Karen B. I’m with you…. this is the third time I’ve looked today to see if there’s an update. Sweet Benny….
Poor Baby Benny! I wonder how it happened. All that matters is that he recuperates quickly and is in no pain. We’re pulling for you, Ben Ben (oops, bad choice of words!). We love you. Heal quickly!
Sorry for the delay in getting a Benny update posted. I just posted a short update on the blog. Thank you everyone for your support! It means the world to me and Benny!
Rest is the best medicine for you Baby Benny. Am also hoping your mom and dad can do the same. Everything sounds great…bones and joints ok.
Corrine, I know you won’t be happy again until that precious tail goes back into its curl.
Thank you for the update.
Thanks for the update. So happy to hear Benny is doing better. I bet he’ll be running around the yard in no time…
Love Benny. Glad to hear he’s doing ok. Rest up, lil pug!
Dear Benny: Rest, Re-Coop and may you have lovely doggy dreams of romping and playing on the beach, in the park and with your pals at home so that you soon forget all about the pain and scariness you experienced with your shoulder. The World should never be a hurtful place for doggusses. And you are such a Champ, Benny. Feel better soon, get back your pug strut and bounce and the curl in your tail! You are much loved.
Bet you can weasel a few extra Benny-baby massages from Corrine et al as well!
Oh poor baby:( The uncurled tail is what would have really got me too, its a true test to their true feelings inside.
I’m glad Mr. B is doing better and enjoying some relaxation! Give him a butt scratch for me.
Yes, when the tail curls up, you know they’re feeling better…
Toeby is like a new pug!! Upping his dosage of thyroid has given him more energy and he’s much more alert and active! Mouth seems to be healed, he’s searching high and low for his Nylabones, which we’ve put up for now…don’t want him to hurt himself. He’s eating well and finished his antibiotics. And the best thing? His snoring has improved soooo much! He is breathing better when he sleeps and not struggling as much. Wow, I’m amazed!
Karen so happy to hear Tobey is doing so well great news
Karen, that is fantastic news…both for Toeby and for you. I am so happy he is doing so well. YAY!!!
And Benny~continue to heal and be CAREFUL! Don’t want you to hurt yourself again, ever! Once a joint has dislocated, they tend to do it again much easier cuz the joint gets looser. Take good care, Benny!
There’s nothing sadder than a pug with a straight tail. Hope it curls up soon and Bennie feels better!
I agree, I hate, hate, hate to see Sleighbelle’s tail uncurled. That means there is definitely something amiss. Take it easy sweet pug. Tell your bubba and sissy to be extra special to you too.
Oh, so sorry to hear this! Glad to hear he is on the mend. It is funny, sometimes they know to rest! Chloe hurt her back when she was a puppy. Now she is 9 and STILL will not jump off anything!
Corrine, thanks for the updates. It must be hard to get in computer time after working all day and we all appreciate it. Baby Benny, smooch, smooch, smooch!
Karen, so glad to hear that Toeby is doing so well. With your report on his breathing, I am wondering if I shouldn’t have Georgie and Gracie checked out. With any rise in temperature their heavy breathing scares me. If they could be relieved of that struggle, how absolutely better it would be. I also worry that the breathing problem will escalate in to heart problems in the near future.
Huck, might be worth checking out…
Oh my goodness!!! I was just catching up on my favorite pugs and just read this!!! I hope he’s okay and we’ll be praying for him here in Nebraska!!! Lots of love!
My Pug may have dislocated his right shoulder. I heard a log pop when I picked him up then he started favoring his right leg by dragging it along while he walked.
Not sure what it is.
Have not gone to vet yet.
