Come

Sol has been adjusting very well to life here with us. And I think we have been adjusting pretty well to life with 4 pugs. The hardest adjustment for us has been figuring out ways to communicate with Sol since she is almost completely deaf. But I think we have settled on a hand signal for “come” that Sol seems to understand pretty well. We have been patting our shin with our hand and Sol trots on over. This has come in very handy when we need to signal to Sol to let her know it is time to go out to go potty or that we need her to follow us for whatever reason.
There are a few downsides, however, but these are the negatives of any hand signal. The first is that Sol needs to be looking at you. Another is that the hand signals don’t work too well at night or low light situations. But even with the limitations, the one hand signal that Sol has picked up on so far is working really well.
The next signal we are working on is one for “quiet” or “no bark” because the little lady gets a bit overzealous when we eat dinner. She just goes crazy whining and begging for food. We have been very careful not to give her any food while we are at the table, so I think she is just trying to hurry dinner along because she knows that she may or not get something from the plate while we are cleaning up in the kitchen.
On an unrelated note, Sol goes in on Monday to have her teeth cleaned and have the thing from eye removed. As soon as I get word that everything is finished I will let you know.

She is just so precious and lucky to have people like you to love and take care of her the way she deserves…God Bless!
Dedicated pug parents as you are, everything will be worked out. You are already doing a marvelous job. Just as it takes time to learn about any rescue, it seems to me things are coming along just fine.
Thank you for all you do, and we will be looking forward to a Sol update Monday.
A good weekend to all OBP fans.
She looks sooooooo shiny, healthy, and beautiful…not to mention blissfully happy!!! Love that photo! Glad to hear the communication is going well and I’ll be interested to hear how the “shhhhhhh” signal works out…I get pretty excited when there’s food around, too, Sol! lol Good luck with your teeth cleaning and eye surgery…will be praying for success and can’t wait to hear all is well. Happy weekend to all…Love and Pugs!
Sol I hope all goes well on Moday-you know you will be in all our thoughts and prayers! Some people say our beloved pets don’t go to heaven because they don’t have souls-They DO! They DO! We love you SOL!
She is such a sweet little lady. Look at how the sun is shining down on her, maybe it’s her pug angel watching over her. She’s just beautiful and glowing today!
Sol looks beautiful!
My friend has a deaf dog and he has a very bright flashlight on his keychain that he uses for come. If the dog is looking away he can point the light so it reflects off something the dog is looking at, and of course it would work well for low light situations.

I agree, Heather! Sol looks so beautiful - healthy and shiny… She is one lucky pug to have the OBP family to care for her!
Much love and many prayers to your family
from a pug loving crazy family in Texas.
We just know everything will turn out great.
Sol is looking so sleek and shiny. Ya’ll are
just super pug parents.
Anybody that can teach 3 pugs to sit patiently while their noses are inces away from pumpkin bread, can surely bring Sol right into line. You are definitely up to the challenge.
Prayin’ all goes well on Monday. Enjoy the beautiful weather you’re having this weekend. Have a great weekend, OBP land.
I have a suggestion for when Sol is not looking at you. Both of my pets who were deaf could still hear high pitched sounds, so I would whistle loudly and in a high pitch. Just a short burst, but it worked and got their attention. I know some people are not great at whistling so if not, try a kids whistle that you blow.
OBP family, you are always in my thoughts & prayers, and Monday will be no exception.
My heart goes out to you and your (furry)family. Delighted that Sol is adjusting, and looks very happy.
Have a good weekend all… Pugs n kisses from NS
I love this picture of Sol. Don’t you wish we could hear their little pug thoughts? She looks so content and peaceful. She’s probably thinking, “Well, it took a while, but it was well worth the wait. I love my new people and my new brothers and sissy.”
God’s blessings, little Sol (and family)!
She is such a beautiful Pug!! Bless you for providing her with a forever home!
I like Pumpkin’s flashlight idea!! That should work really well in any situation…..except outdoors on a bright day.
Maybe tapping your index finger to your lips for quiet - I think that’s a universal sign for quiet =)
Best of luck to the li’ lady on Monday. I took our new addition, Max, to the vet for his nueter surgery and a teeth cleaning last Friday - he ended up needing 11 teeth pulled!! Poor baby! A week later and he’s doing just fine.
I think Sol and Marty are two pees in a pod! I sometimes feel he has trouble with ears and eyes, but then he is nearly 10. I raise my hand as come. It works well, especially in a large crowd like meetups! She sure is a doll. I’ll be glad to hear she comes through Monday well!
Stacey,
Eleven teeth, wow. Glad Max is doing much better.
Oh how I love reading about Sol. It’s great to get updates on how she is doing. She’s such a beautiful little girl.
Thanks everyone for the well wishes! Monday will be a nail biter for sure, but I know everything is going to be fine. I will just feel better when I have the little girl back home again.
Pumpkin & Kiki good suggestions! I will try them both!
Punchy - I would love for Marty & Sol to meet. They sound so much alike!
Stacey - I’m glad to hear that Max is back on his paws again
