Both of my pugs go CRAZY with excitement when someone arrives at our house.
They believe that every person who visits, is there just to see them. and for the first 10 minutes, they stick with that belief.
About 10 minutes into a visit, they generally stop licking and crying and jumping all over our visitors.
I have tried everything.. but it doesn’t matter what I do. They love everyone.. and think that everyone loves them.
Most people are ok with it.. but a few have been offended. I just said “Hey, you knew we had puppies before you came over, if you dont like it, you dont have to come over again” and I left it at that.

Both of my pugs get really excited when we have company. Thankfully they are mellowing out a little bit so they get over their excitement in a few minutes. I haven’t found
anything that works either.

I have 2 pugs that also think all visitors are there to see them and that everyone thinks they are as funny and adorable as I do.  After the first 10 or 15 minutes they calm down and will behave.  But in those first few minutes, all their training goes out the window.

My pug also jumps on and licks everyone that walks in the door. He stands up on his hind legs and dances around all excited for at least ten minutes pawing at peoples legs. If they sit down, watch out, the licking machine will come at your face!!

Angel is like a old lady in a 3-year old body. She’s excited at first, but as long as she gets a good first sniff she generally prefers her mommies to anyone else. Certain people who visit often and thus have a longer relationship with Angel get a more excited greeting, including minimal jumping, licking and some general cuddle time. But for the most part, she’s not exceedingly noisy or obnoxious with visitors, so we haven’t had to bother training her to sit and wait for guests to approach her first.

My pugs just bark at the door and do a bit of sniffing once the guest gets in. They don’t tend to jump at people or put their paws on them. But then I think that’s because they’re VERY laid back and exhibit anit-pug like behavior in many ways.

When we just had Chloe and Zoey, life was calm when visitors came.  Rosie is completely mental when guests arrive and Marty makes a LOT of noise…now all four are pretty bonkers.  We have the kitchen gated so when someone comes in they have a chance to be ready!  Chloe will immediately bring whomever arrived a toy.  Rosie is a jumper…so she usually ends up in the crate until she can calm down.  It’s mainly the noise!!!!

I tell people to stand up and not talk to them in baby voice.  Ignore them if they jump.  I’ve got my dad’s girlfriend “trained” now and it really does help.

My younger pug thinks that the person coming over to visit is there to see them, like other pugs think! My older pug (8yrs about) wags her tale and may give a little hello bark greeting but not much else after that. I have given up on training the younger pug, I will wait it out till she gets older like my other!

With Lucy, my 3&1/2 year old, she jumps and goes bonkers and growls with pleasure with a toy in her mouth.  Now,  I will grab onto her and make her sit down between my legs while my relatives look at me wit ha puzzled face.  I tell them to ignore her if she jumps up (when I let her go).  If I continue to hold her, I’ll tell them not to come over until she’s calm.

I really appreciated everyone’s comments.  And now I realize that Bennie’s wild enthusiasm for all who enter our home is kind of the essence of pug!  I’ll keep working with him, but maybe it’ll take a few years for him to mellow enough to be calm.  Thank you for all the feedback

I’m not glad to know everyone has the same problem, but I guess I am.  Mia is 16mths old.  And she thinks life revolves around her (don’t they all) she does like every other response, she will calm down after 10 mins..

Lucy and Lily LOVE company. They both go nuts for about 5-10minutes when someone comes thru the front door; however I blame the humans, not the pugs!
People who come visit me know we have the ‘girls’ and they lavish love and affection on the pugs when they come thru the door. The girls have gotten used to the routine of guests bringing treats and love and cuddles so that in itself makes them excited.

I don’t know if this is right place to ask some advice, or even if you accecpt these things, but we currently have a Pug whom we have had for a year now.  Kizer (yeah, my wife named our pug after me) has been the light of our past year, so much so that we have decided to get another one.  My question is;  does anyone have any advice on how it is best to “introduce” this new member of our family?

My best bit of advice, when you do get your second pug baby..BE PATIENT. It took about 6 months for our “baby” Seymour to get used to our rescue Gizmo. They are best buddies now though! At first we thought we were going to have to find Gizmo a new home, because Seymour acted EXTREMELY jealous ALL the time. He still gets jealous, but Gizmo is the sweetest little boy ever! He’s super shy and only loves his pug-parents, no one else, well..except for grandma. Seymour, on the other hand, LOVES EVERYONE!

Introduce them OUTSIDE, not inside though..that part is extremely important, that way your first pug will not feel as threatened. With TIME, it will be well worth it.

Be ready for some “pug tornados” and toy fights though! lol

To day I ran across this site and let me say.. I love it.. It has been very helpful. Libbie is my 9 mo. pug, I never knew that I could love her as much as I do !! She is soo funny at times and then at time grrr !!!
But where I live there is a very busy Highway in front of my house. I was out side one day and say what I thought was a paper bag come flying out of a car, well the bag being to move,, I went to look at it and it was a kitten, it was in bad shape, I gave the little baby a bath and feed it and now we have had it about a mo. and the little kitten thinks Libbie is his mommy, It was a little hard at the beginning.. Libbie wanted to play really rough with it ,, but it gave it back just as rough!! they are sooooooo cute to watch playing with each other. When it comes to feeding them if I feed the kitten before Libbie she goes WILD !!!! and if I love on the kitten before her yep.. goes wild again.. but I think they love each other..
