Pet Food Recall
Menu Foods is recalling dog and cat food sold under various brand names after several reports of animals getting sick and even dying after eating the food. You can see the complete list of recalled items here.
The Menu Foods Recall list has been updated at least once. So, if you have checked it before you may want to check it again.

Our 6.5 year old pug suffered acute renal failure on February 19, 2007. He had been vomiting approximately 6-8 hours after eating, drinking and voiding excessive amounts of water and walking with a “guarded” gait (looked like he was in pain). We took him to our vet for an urgent visit, and after testing, we were told that he was in kidney failure with a poor prognosis. The vet immediately started IV fluids, antiemetics, antibiotics and other renal medications. We requested prayers for our pug, our vet and us from everyone… and spent countless hours on the internet learning all we could about this life threatening illness. My coworkers were afraid to ask me how he was doing, in fear that I would break down in tears. I spoke to the vet and his technician numerous times each day… relaying the information to my family and friends.
Toby was released after 3 days of intensive care (along with numerous medications, prescription food, & required subcutaneous diuresis every 3 days). We returned for repeat lab work after 10 days and his labs are normal and his prognosis is good at this time. His next lab tests are in 30 days.
I am writing this as I pray for all the other pet owners that thought they were buying the best food for their beloved companions… you see, we fed Toby ... NUTRO ULTRA Weight Management… so called “cuts & gravy style” canned food.
I have my receipts from Petsmart for the food purchases and the medical records from the vet (his most recent lab tests prior to this incident are within normal limits)… I have attempted to contact the company numerous times with no success. I have placed a call (and left a message requesting a return call) to the Florida state representative for FDA complaints… and a local television station’s consumer advocate reporter.
Just a side note… our vet bills are close to $2100 at this time. (with medication, prescription food, and repeat vet visits required for the rest of Toby’s life)
I feel blessed that Toby is recovering… and pray for those that lost their pets to this preventable act by Menu Foods.
