PugSpeak is making available two Joanne Knauf original pug paintings to the public. Proceeds from the sale of the paintings will be donated to the Colorado Pug Rescue and Prairie Pugs Rescue.
Contemporary artist and dear friend, Joanne Knauf, passed away in March 2006. Joanne lived in Pretoria, South Africa and while she painted scenes and subjects indigenous to her homeland, Joanne’s real passion was pugs. Joanne was particularly inspired by her own puggy brood - Pugzelle, Biscuit, and Pablo Pugasso. This passion was reflected in over 65 pug paintings.

The Binkster started out as a fictional pug in Nancy Bush’s novel Candy Apple Red featuring novice private investigator Jane Kelly. In the book, a pug, named The Binkster, wanders into Kelly’s life while she is in the middle of her first case. In true pug fashion, The Binkster makes herself at home and becomes Kelly’s personal assistant.
While writing Candy Apple Red, Nancy Bush was pugless. But, it seems even fictional pugs can be persuasive. Soon after writing Candy Apple Red, Bush brought The Binkster to life when she opened her home to a small, pug puppy. Bush aptly named the pug The Binkster and the rest is pug history.
Never one to rest, the real-life Binkster has teamed up with her mom to write Electric Blue, another Jane Kelly mystery which of course features The Binkster. In Electric Blue, Jane Kelly and The Binkster set-off to solve another murder mystery.
Pug lovers will love to follow The Binkster as she works the case in Electric Blue. Electric Blue will be available in October 2006.
