We kicked off Henry's birthday with a trip to the beach, but this wasn't any ordinary trip to the beach. The pugs were going to the beach to meet longtime blog reader Jennifer and her Mom, Mary. It was so great meeting them both and the pugs simply loved them. Not only were they so very nice, they also had great petting hands and they brought a little Easter basket for the pugs. Here is a shot of Luna with Jennifer with Luna doing her very own Easter Bunny impersonation.

Henry was definitely on cloud nine as he got to take about a 20 minute car ride to the beach, then a short walk to the actual beach and then there was water, sand, dogs, people and lots of petting. An ideal day for him.
In addition to meeting Jennifer & Mary the pugs also met a little turtle that was hanging out on the beach.

And look at little Miss Luna. It looks like she is enjoying her brother's birthday fun too.

We spent a few hours on the beach and by the time we got back to the truck, the pugs were wiped out. We got them buckled into the car, gave them a little treat from their Easter basket and before we knew it the car was filled with a chorus of pug snoring.
When we got back home, we brushed all the sand that the pugs decided to bring home with them out of their coats and then the left the pugs to get a little nap. Later that night, it was ice cream, chewing and more snoring. I think their little beach adventure tuckered them out!
A big thank you to Jennifer & Mary for meeting us and snapping so many pictures. Thanks to them I could take a day off from being behind the camera

For one week, and one week only, I have a 6 year old pug (Luna), a seven year old pug (Henry) and an 8 year old pug (Benjamin). Then Henry will join his brother and officially become a senior pug. Can you believe the boys are considered seniors now? I sure can't!

Luna was happily chewing her bone in the living room when someone walked into the kitchen. Not wanting to overreact and lose her bone to one of her brothers, Luna continued to chew the very tippy top of her bone and cast a discerning eye toward the kitchen.
If just Luna was chewing it, a bone of this size, would last Luna a lifetime. I would say she is more of a nibbler than a chewer. But even though she doesn't make much progress when chewing she loves to spend a little time each night nibbling away.

We had the carpets cleaned last week and had to move the pugs' crates out of their little room. The crates took temporary residence in the bathroom and the pugs felt compelled to all pile in one while I was getting ready that day. Surprisingly, no one asked to go in the crate on top. Benjamin didn't stay long because he felt like Henry & Luna were hogging all the crate space.
And by the way, Luna got another "How old is that one?" comment last night on our walk. After this week's blog post I couldn't help but laugh and I though you guys might get a chuckle out of it.
Enjoy the weekend!

One thing we got in the habit of doing more with the pugs when Solsey was around was taking all the pugs out with us when we ran errands. At first, it was hard for Benjamin, Henry & Luna to get used to the fact that the car ride was not going to end with them arriving at some spectacular place. When I would drive to a building, punch some buttons on a big machine and then return back home, the fawns would be extremely disappointed. But after some time, they started to figure out the difference between errands and trips to the dog park and other exciting places. So now they aren't as disheartened if they go out and don't actually get to get out of the car.
If we have to actually go in a store for a quick stop, the pugs only get to go if we both are going. That way one of us can wait in the car with them. This works great for the winter & spring months here in FL, but in the summer there is no way the pugs are going to be able to go on these quick little trips. Even with the A/C running in the car, it still gets very hot in the truck if you are just sitting in a parking lot.
So we are trying to make the most of our spring-time errands because I know summer will be here before we even know it.
And look at Baby Benny. All the car rides he has been going on has given him a bit of confidence and he will now stick his head out the window a bit when we are parked. I think he managed to stick a whole inch of his head out the window on this trip.

Last weekend there was a fair going on at one of our favorite parks. The dogs had a lot of fun walking through the game area last year, so we thought we would try it again this year during an off-peak time (early Sunday morning). As we were making our way to the carnival area, one of the VIPs (Volunteers In Policing, because that is how we roll here in Florida) manning the road block, hollered over to us:
VIP: I bet I can guess which one is the oldest.
Me: Really (acting like I had never played this game before)
VIP: Yeah, it is this one. (pointing to Luna)
Me: Nope. It is this one (pointing to Benjamin)
Then the usual conversation ensued. But that one looks so much older, she's complete gray. So I shared Luna's story and told him that she got off to a rough start and she went gray prematurely.
If I had a dollar for every person that has come up to us when we are out and about asking how old Luna is or nearly betting their life that Luna is the oldest pug of the group, Solsey's memorial fund would have about 50 more dollars.
Appearances can be deceiving.

To me those bags of mulch represent a lot of work. To Benny, it is the most massive pile of treats ever!

In honor of the closing of the Olympic games, the pugs decided to hold their own medal ceremony. The event is unknown and the ranking is highly questionable. I'm pretty sure seating was on a first come first serve basis.
In any case, we enjoyed watching the Olympic games these past two weeks. Especially, yesterday's hockey game.

I think if the cat deems the grass dry enough for her delicate paws, then the yard should be considered in adequate condition for the pugs as well. You hear that Luna. I'm talking to you. And Benny, I'm looking your way too.
Yesterday, when I took the pugs out to go potty in the backyard before dinner, I looked around and I had Henry, Sol & the cat in the yard with me. Luna & Benjamin were taking cover and it wasn't even raining. It had stopped raining about an hour before we went out. Why was the cat out in the yard with us? She wasn't there to go potty. She was there to supervise. Because the speed of the pugs' potty activities also affects whether or not her dinner makes it to the bowl in a timely fashion.

Benjamin, Henry & Luna patiently waiting for a little taste of roast beef. Why is there no picture of Sol you ask? Well, that is because she is jumping around like a wild woman, barking & whining and demanding that we hurry up and give her her treat. All that craziness doesn't really photograph that well.
