Ink for Solsey

Sol Tattoo

A few weeks ago, I got a tattoo on my foot in memory of Sol. I decided to get it on my foot because Sol was always at my feet. I miss her in so many ways, but one of the times I miss her the most is when I am at work. Each workday, Sol parked herself at my feet while I worked at my desk. Often times she would lay on my feet or rest her head on the wheels of my office chair. Whenever I would look down, she would look up at my with her patented Solsey stare and I would pat her on the head and then return to work. I could never move my chair or my feet for that matter without taking a quick look to see if I was going to roll over her or kick her in the head.

And now, while at work, it is sad to look down and not see her there. But now, when I look down I can see Solsey's tattoo and smile.

Goodbye Solsey Baby

Sol

It is with a very heavy heart that I must say that Sol has passed away. She had a simply fantastic day on Saturday, but late Saturday night into Sunday she took a turn for the worse. We spent all of Sunday with her hoping that she was just having an off day and that Monday would be better. However, her breathing got worse throughout the night on Sunday and we took her to the vet first thing Monday morning. It was there, knowing we have done and tried everything we possible could, that we made the tough decision to let her rest in peace.

We stayed with her the whole time and told her how much she was loved. I made sure to tell her how much everyone in OBP land loved her too. She went very peacefully and it was almost a relief to see her laying still without constantly coughing and struggling to breathe.

We are confident that we made the right decision, however, we miss her so much. She was such a big presence and a good spirit.

Posting will be a little light the next few days as I am going to take some time to process all this. I'm not really sure what to say or write next. I'm going to do what Solsey did and just take it one day at a time.

I know Sol was loved by more than just us and I want to say sorry to all of you as well. Please know that my thoughts are with you.

Take care everyone and kiss your puggers.

From Sissy, With Love

Boston

It was a sad weekend here in the OBP household.  We had our German Shepard cousin, Boston, take his last breath.  He lived near us when we lived in Maryland but it had been a while since we’d last seen him but we remember him fondly.  We would take him for long walks when his own mom needed a pup sitter.  We visited him a few times with the boys, too.  Though he was very protective of his mother, as most Shepards are, he still welcomed us all into his home and allowed the boys to partake in leg-lifting adventures in the back yard and even shared his prized chicken jerky treats.  It was very unfortunate that cousin Luna never had the opportunity to meet cousin Boston.  The two would have been fast friends, as well.  Bozzy, as he was affectionately referred to, was the light of his mama’s life.  He was a loyal and loving companion, a guardian and a best friend.  It is with heavy heart we mourn his passing.

In Loving Memory

I am very sad to say that Lou C., the family rabbit, passed away this weekend.  He had just come back from a visit to the vet, where the vet said that he was in great shape for being nine years old, but that he was a few years past his prime.  We were all very distraught hearing the vet’s news and he died the very next day.  He was 9 years old.

Lou C. lived a very full and interesting life.  His life began as the classroom pet for a room full of pre-schoolers.  For the first five years of his life he was free to hop around and play with a room full of 20 4 year old children.  The children initially named him “Lucy” because everyone was under the impression that he was a girl.  However, when he went in to be fixed everyone soon discovered that “Lucy” was a boy.  So his name was changed to Lou C. - with C being the first initial of his last name.

After 4 years of teaching he finally retired and that is when he came to live with us full-time.  He quickly became good friends with Cupid, our cat, who was the only other pet we had at that time.  A few years later we got Benjamin & Henry and the boys learned to get along wonderfully with Lou as well.  Since he was litter box trained Lou enjoyed free reign of the house.  He was free to hop around anyplace he liked, although he usually never left carpeted surfaces.  He enjoyed being outside nibbling on the grass and spending some time in the sun.

Even though the vet had said that he was past his prime, his death on Saturday was unexpected.  Everyone, including Benjamin, Henry & Cupid, keep looking around expecting him to be right there under our feet.  The cat and dogs keep going into his room to look for him and even when I pass by I still can’t believe that his is not there.

Lou C. was loved by us all and he was dear part of our family.  He will forever be missed!
