On Sunday we celebrated Baby Benny's 9th birthday. As far as the pugs are concerned, it was pretty hot during the day, so we saved a nice walk for the evening.
For Benny's special birthday treat, I baked him Pug Bars. I got the recipe from Puglet of Daily Puglet. Puglet really seemed to love them and they had pumpkin in them so I knew that would be right up Ben's alley. Not only did Benny love them, but so did Henry & Luna.
Benny's first birthday rule was that if he had to wear a silly birthday hat, so did Luna and Henry or else he wasn't going to share his yummy Pug Bars.
And since it was Benny's special day, I let him take a big chomp out of the Pug Bars before I broke everyone off a little piece to enjoy.
All in all, I think Benny had a pretty good day.

A few eagle eyed blog readers spotted Henry lurking in the background of Monday's Temptation blog post. The pugs are very much aware that if one of them gets a treat they all get a treat, so they have been known to take turns buttering us up for goodies because if one of them wins they all win.
This couldn't be more true of drive-thrus. On the rare occasions when we pick up something quick from the drive-thru and we have the pugs with us, Benjamin & Henry totally turn on the charm for the drive-thru workers to score treats.
Luna does not like to be anywhere near an open window in a car, so she patiently waits for one of her brothers to earn her a treat. To help increase the pugs' odds of getting a special treat, we let one of them up to the front of the car while we go through the drive-thru so they can get a good look at what is going on.
Since Luna has no interest, the boys have traditionally taken turns. Using their handsome good looks they have scored cookies, McNuggets, french fries and lots of other goodies.
The boys used to be happy taking turns, that is until Henry had his turn up front and did not score any treats from the drive-thru for the pugs. Henry had the bad luck of getting a non dog person on his turn and Benny has never let him forget it.
And from that day forward, Benny insists that he be the one up front, putting his cute wrinkles to good use. And those wrinkles of his have never let him down.
I know Henry wants nothing more than a chance to redeem himself, but Benny is just not having it. I think I caught him muttering under his breath something about "If you want something done right, you have to do it yourself!"

The other morning, Benjamin pulled up a chair at the breakfast table and was eyeing my banana. The evil part of me loves to test the pugs. Especially, when it is a choice between something they really want (food) and something they know they shouldn't do (eat off the table).
So, while Benny was eyeing my banana, I moved the banana to the edge of the table so that it was easily in Benny's reach. He sniffed it a few times and then played it cool. He learned a while ago, the hard way I might add, that bananas are foods you peel before you eat. So, I knew that an unpeeled banana wasn't going to be much of a temptation for him.
So, I opened the banana just a tad and sat it back on the table. Benny became much more interested and smelled the banana and then licked his lips and smelled the banana a bit more. He looked at the banana, then looked at me, back at the banana and then back to me. It was as if he knew it was one of my sinister tests. So, I of course caved and give him, Henry and Luna a few bites of banana.

I love how when Luna is working to get the peanut butter out of a kong, or in this case a kong like toy, she closes her eyes and licks as fast as her little tongue can go. It's as if she drifts off into her own little world.

In our house, if you unscrew the lid of the peanut butter jar, 3 pugs will magically appear at your feet. They love, love, love peanut butter and while we give them a kong stuffed with peanut butter from time to time, they certainly don't get one every time someone removes the lid to the peanut butter.
The other night, I opened the peanut butter and the pugs were instantly looking up at me, pleading for a kong. I was in a bit of a rush, so I didn't really have time to dig the kongs out and stuff each one with peanut butter. So, I took a paper plate, cut it into 3 pieces and put a clump of peanut butter on the plates and let the pugs have at it.
At first they were chasing the peanut butter plates all over the place and then Henry had the bright idea to stand on his plate so it would stop moving. I remarked that Henry is the only smart one in the bunch and we laughed as Benjamin & Luna were getting their fair share of exercise while Henry was standing still and gobbling up his peanut butter.
A few minutes later we look over and see that Henry has finished his peanut butter and is now eating his paper plate. Yup, so much for Henry being the smart one of the bunch.

We just found out about National Popcorn Day. From the brief research we have done, many say the exact date of National Popcorn Day is unknown, although many celebrate it on Jan 19th.
If we missed the official day or not, the pugs were not about to let National Popcorn Day go by uncelebrated. They LOVE popcorn so in honor of the holiday we made a bag of popcorn last night.
They would have ate the whole bag if we let them, but they were forced to share with their humans.
Does your pug like popcorn?

I made a quick trip up to see G-Ma over the holidays and as soon as I got home Benjamin wanted to know what G-Ma had put in my suitcase. And G-Ma did not disappoint. In the front pouch, right where Benny is sniffing, G-Ma stuck a few ginger snap cookies that Benjamin went crazy over last Christmas.
Last year, G-Ma got a tin of gingersnaps and both Benny and G-Ma loved them. So, Santa thought it would be a good idea to bring more this year. I think it is safe to say both Benny and G-Ma were quite pleased with Santa.

We rarely give the pugs table scraps when we eat, however, that does not keep them from staring longingly at us while we dine hoping that someone will cave and give them a few bites to eat.
Since we rarely cave, they pugs tend to get bored just watching us eat. This is especially true for Luna. As dinner goes on, her eyes begin to droop and before you know it she is laying under the table snoring. But, don't worry, give a little piece of something to the boys and she can spring back into action in no time flat.
