What to Be

Benjamin

Halloween is quickly approaching and we really struggled with costume ideas for Benjamin, Henry and Luna this year. Usually, an idea just pops into our heads and we run with it, but this year, we brainstormed and searched trying to find good costume ideas.

The hard thing is that we don't like to repeat ideas, but after 5 years I think our creative costume juices are running low.

Here is a recap of the pugs' Halloween costumes over the years.

This is an amazingly fabulous picture of Benny (aren’t they all!)...He’s thinking, if I just get into my zen place, the perfect costume is bound to pop in my head!  I know, I could be a loaf of pugkin bread!

I always look forward to the puggie’s costumes Corrine…You all do such a wonderful job with them every year.  Hmmmm, now I’m trying to think…what could those three darlings be this year…

Sue, I’m so so sorry to hear poor lil’ Abby has to endure surgery.  I know how hard this is going to be for the both of you, but I know that Abby will flourish in your care and be running around as good as new with your help.  Please know you both are in my thoughts and prayers and please keep us posted.  Give her a kiss from me!

What an adorable photo!  Our Pugs have always loved sunbathing.  Would a Wizard of Oz grouping work?

Gus & Bobby

Our suggestion- The Three Amigos!

Just thought…the sun, the moon, the stars…In honor of Sol…and we know who would be the moon!!

Heather, what a great idea about the sun, the moon, the stars, and yes a great tribute to our sweet Solsey.

Corrine, if you are going to do a repeat, I vote for either the 3 Little Pigs or Peanuts.

Sleighbelle

Well, here is Texas, we have one thing on our minds: WORLD SERIES BABY!!!  You’ve done football, what about baseball?  And sorry Corrine, we kicked your boys to the curb in our quest for the crown!  Tonight is game 1 of Ranger domination!!!

Carla

10/27/2010

I also look forward to the OBP costumes.  Heather, that is such a great idea.  As for repeats, I think Benny and the Jets is my favorite….or is it the FB players and cheerleader?  Whatever you do, Corrine, we know it will be great.  (BTW, do only sleep 3 hours/night this time of year???)

Danielle

10/27/2010

What about a cat, a pumpkin, and a ghost or bat? Or a hot dog, a burger, and a french fry?

Carla

10/27/2010

Oh, I almost forgot, Sue, I’m also praying for you and Abby.

At our local Pug Meet Howloween party this past Sunday, one trio of pugs came as bacon, eggs and toast…very cute and unique.

“What To Be Or Not What To Be"This is the question on Benny’s mind! So how about Ophelia, Hamlet and King Henry? Oh for thou a thousand ideas come! Sorry Bill-my Shakespear isn’t what it used to be!Pug-hugs from the Colorado 5-P.S. Since we have snow here-will probably consider Eskimo or reindeer outfits!!!

Laura

I vote for Heather’s idea!!!!!!!!!

What a great pic and what great costumes in previous years! I love the peanuts gang!! Whatever you come up with Corrine will be perfect!

We had our pug-o-ween here last Sunday and Pip won 3rd place in most original category in the costume contest! Since he is a little chubby, we made a Butterball turkey label and ironed it on a t-shirt and he was a frozen butterball turkey! Great fun!!!

This morning my thoughts are focused on the Rangers, too.  So my first suggestion is to have them go as Cliff Lee, Josh Hamilton and Ian Kinsler.

If Sleighbelle and I are the only ones who like that idea, how about the Three Musketeers?  Or Snap, Crackle and Pop?

Lisa

10/27/2010

I don’t have any good ideas for costumes, but I wanted to say that you make me laugh so hard sometimes!  I adore your sense of humor when it comes to the Pigchildren.

The Peanuts was probably my favorite of all time and one of those photos must be my new wallpaper.

Can’t wait to see what they will be this year!

3 stooges?  Manny, Moe and Jack?  I don’t know!!!  3 Musketeers?

I loved the photos of hallowe’ens past…
It is a hard job to think of costumes! and 3 costumes at that!!  I too an costume hunting, for one pug and 3 adults!!
Have fun everyone!

Martha, I love your Ranger idea. This is a feeling I’ve never had so it’s great !!! Of course all pugs look super in red and blue so they really couldn’t go wrong with Ranger costumes. HaHa Genevieve does not like to be dressed up at all and I don’t know about Sir Luke. One year we dressed Mollie, our pit bull as a fairy princess and it was too cute. All the trick or treaters got a kick out of it. We could dress Mollie in a Ranger shirt and cap, she will let us do anything to her even paint her toe nails.

Tabitha’s got a cute idea…would Benny be better as the Scarecrow or the Tin Man?  Some great ideas from OBP Land…Danielle and Heather, Gina and Martha…oh heck, everyone.  Very creative and cute ideas.  Is Grammy still there to help with the costumes? Commandeer her plane ticket so she can’t leave until after Pumpkin Day.

It was sweet to see precious Sol in the one photo.  Made my eyes leak.

Sue S - you have snow already.  EEK What about three penguins? Or 5 for the Colorado 5.  Gina - the frozen Butterball turkey is a blast - I hope you took pictures?

Pug hugs,
Huckle chuckles
& Cooper’s a pooper (and going to be up for adoption if he can’t stop - hell, I’ll even pay.  Actually, I’ve almost got enough money to send him to Grannygoogs….get ready, dear…);)

Karen B.

10/27/2010

How about 2 peas in a pod, with Luna being the pod?

Karen B.

10/27/2010

Texas Rangers???? Hah!!  I would prefer SF Giants costumes!!  Go Giants!  Sorry, but I AM in California, after all and the Giants have had SUCH a terible team til this year!  AND their colors are orange and black, perfect for Halloween!!!!!

I just have to tell you that your Batman and Robin photo is my desktop background, and everyone at work really gets a kick out of it. Actually, this is the 3rd year I’ve used it for Halloween…I just love it!

“To Be or Not To Be; That is the question.”  Well, I may as well put my two cents in.  How about:  Stop, Look and Listen; The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly; Shake, Rattle and Roll; Bacon, Lettuce and Tomato; Rock, Paper, Scissors. Then there’s my favorite:  Bagel, Lox, and Cream Cheese!  Happy Halloween everyone!

Since its the last year of Harry Potter movies, why not Harry, Ron and Hermione?

When we lived in the country we had two Boxers and they remained silly and puppyish all their lives (they died in a house fire five years ago).  The girl we had would go outside, roam around and play but when we coaxed the others into the house when we went away, she would pull this Boxer thing and stand just out of our reach even when the others came in.  It was a game with her just getting close enough we thought we could get her, and then she would dart away and grin at us just knowing we couldn’t get her.  She did this over and over, laughing at our unsuccessful attempts until she got tired and came in of her own accord.  You can imagine how frustrated we would be.  Abby would not even consider acting foolish.  She just won’t come in the first place and immediately tries to hide.  Ahhh, Boxers and Pugs, what a combination.

Karen B.

10/27/2010

Huckle, OMG!  Your babies died in a house fire?  How ever did you learn to breathe again…That must have been devastating and I’m so sorry…

Patty B.- those are great suggestions!

Gina

10/27/2010

Huckle~ Yes…OMG! Your babies died in a house fire? Please tell me it was smoke inhalation. I’m so sorry!

Yes, I have pictures of Pip in his costume. I will post pics tomorrow on the picture part here!

I forgot to tell everyone…at our last pug club meet up (not pug-o-ween~just a regular meet up) but one man asked if Pip was pregnant!!!! I laughed so hard and told him no and he thought I was offended. I had to tell him I wasn’t and that I thought it was really funny. Pip didn’t think it was that funny though. He gave a big snort and a big ‘harumph’!

Martha

10/28/2010

Oh Gina!  Poor Pip!  Why don’t you tell Pip that the man was just joking…or crazy…!  It would have been justice if Pip had lifted his leg on that man!

Louise

Luna = Little Nemo
Benny & Henry are the 2 of the sharks (Bruce & Anchor)

Corrine - OBP

10/28/2010

Thank you everyone for the awesome costume suggestions.  I am going to file them away fro next year wink

Sleighbelle - LOL.  I have been a lifelong Oriole fan which sadly means there hasn’t been anything to get excited about in a long time.  The last time the Orioles even made it to the World Series I was just 3 years old :-(

sue s

10/28/2010

LOL And then some!!! Huckle I can’t even imagine losing babies in a house fire! Yes we have snow! Penguins-or polar bears! Beauty(mom)Proto(son) and Daisey(aunt-boston terrier)could pull of the penguins, but poor little Miss Solsie-she’s a fawn-perhaps white dots and antlers(baby deer)could work for her.As for me-I am dressing up for Sunday worship as a Blues Brother(I’m a pastor)as I will be on a mission from God! We are also going to be singing “Halloween Carols” in place of hymns. Hope all have a great day! Pug-hugs from the Colorado 5

I love this cute skeleton costume we got little petey

Huckle

10/28/2010

Gina - at least he didn’t pee on him.  I think Georgie would have,  It sounds as if Pip must be as stuffed into his skin as Georgie is although he is starting to wrinkle on his back so hopefully he is losing weight.  Those wrinkles weren’t there before.

The fire was awful only because of losing our dogs and cats.  One of the volunteer fireman told me right off that smoke inhalation would have gotten them.  Obviously we lost everything - again.  Twenty years before that, we lost our home to fire (we always have to go ‘over the top’...no i don’t play with matches! They were both electrical in nature, but we were able to get the pets out then

Sue S - did you make up your own Halloween carols?  What a nifty idea.  Our conservative church would have something self-righteous to say about that holiday(as in thumbs down) and bring that goings on to a halt.  Example - at Halloween time one year, my husband and I were in charge of the treats and punch for coffee hour after church.  To decorate the table, I brought some fall things…leaves, etc. and had this stuffed black cat on the table.  One of the church members saw it and told me not to use it for decoration!  I’m surprised she didn’t give me a ‘time out’ in the corner.

Rescue Remedy has finally arrived.  Now how do I use it?  It doesn’t taste like something the dogs would like.

Sorry this is so long - you know me…;)
