The Cough - Part III

Luna

The first plan of action was to start Luna on a round of antibiotics to help clear up the mucus and suspected bronchitis. We also took Luna off of the diuretic she was on for the suspected pulmonary hypertension. For now, we are keeping Luna on the prednisone and Theophylline, but we are going to be starting an inhaled bronchodilator.

Yep, Luna is going to need an inhaler!

We purchased a special mask used to administer the meds. I have no idea how this is going to go. Luna is a good girl, but I'm not sure she is going to like the mask.

Once Luna is on the inhaled steroid for 2 weeks, we will try to ween her off the prednisone. It takes a while for the inhaled steroid to build up in her body so we don't want to ween her off the prednisone to early.

I'll let you know how things go with the inhaler. I am hoping that it will be a much more effective treatment and will bring the little girl some relief from her pesky cough.

Have a great weekend!

O my, poor Luna. I can’t even imagine how you would put a mask on Luna. I have to chase Remy around the kitchen every day to put his harness on.I would love to see it though. You could do instructional videos.I hope it does the trick and Luna gets relief.Fingers crossed.

Know where you are with this. We battle the same thing for 18 months with different meds, inhalers, etc. My Kobe did fine with the inhaler and mask. Used a pediatric size and things went well.

I know Luna is good with her eye drops, but an inhaler?  That might be asking a little much.  Perhaps one of you could do a video of the procedure.  Now that would be interesting.  Oh, the poor baby.  There are lots of hugs and smooches out here for her, as well as prayers.  She is such a precious little baby and has been so interesting to get to know, and, has been so luckey to be an OBP pug.

I found it interesting that George is on a Prednisone-like steroid as well as Theophylline.  Those must be the best RXs for these types of ills.  BTW, Georgie’s night last night was much better.  Around 5 episodes only thanks to his “relaxing” pill.  Thanks for your concerns.

Good luck with the mask.  Like Eileen, if I go near Meiling’s face and it’s not to give her a treat———she’s on the move!!! You are such wonderful pug parent’s to do everything to make Luna comfortable.  Huckle—glad to hear Georgie had a better night.

I’m glad you are set on a good course of action!  If anyone can do it, you and Luna can!

Anita Presley, I am sure the OBP household appreciates your input.

Luna, sweetheart, I’m hoping you cooperate fully so you can get better.

Oh Yeah, Huckle, during much of Abby’s struggle, she was very comfortable getting doped up on acepromazine from the vet, along with the usual other things like prednisolone, etc.  She did not get along with theophylline, as it made her squirrelly and incapable of settling down.  And then the intermittent clavamox when she was suffering from pneumonia, at least I think that is what I remember was the usual pill of choice.

Luna sounds like she is in such good hands, that specialty vet sounds like they are right on.  Here’s hoping that baby girl feels better soon and can enjoy some more comfortable times in the near future.

Good luck with the inhaler.  Please let us know how things are going.

Drools and licks,
Minnie, Mack and Mario
