Spring is Here

Tangled leashes

I love our walks with the pugs in the evenings.  They are usually a great way to unwind from a hectic day.  The last few nights, however, I have felt like I am in the middle of the old school video game Paperboy.  There have been other dogs off leash, kids on bikes, bees and all kinds of other obstacles thrown our way.  If only I had a sack of newspapers with me so that I could throw one at them and get them to pause for a few seconds so that we can make our way down the street.

While I never encountered this type of hinderance in Paperboy, one of my biggest pet peeves when out walking the dogs is when someone walking another dog stops to talk to us and doesn’t know the leash dance.  When dogs meet, they sniff each other and they inevitably make their way to the other’s rear end to really get to know each other.  They circle and smell, circle and smell and during that process the leashes will inevitable get tangled.  When this happens, I try to keep up with the dogs and get the leashes untangled.  It is really great when the other person is of the same mindset and can help keep the leashes straight so that our dogs don’t become conjoined twins.  It really irks me when the other person just stands there while the five dogs get their leashes all in an knot (my four and their one).  Some are oblivious, but there is one person that I encounter fairly regularly that just laughs and says, “Oh, look they are getting all tangled up!”  What a very keen observation!

So while that person drones on and on I just keep untangling the leashes and thinking to myself that it is quite obvious that this person has never owned more than one dog at a time.

And for this very reason, I am glad that we move the clocks ahead a few weeks back.  When it was getting dark earlier, we would walk the dogs before dinner and now since we aren’t in a mad race with the sun, we can walk the dogs after dinner.  Trust me, you don’t want to have your dogs leash get all tangled with mine when I’m hungry.  I think everyone will agree that walks after dinner are much, much nicer.

I wasn’t able to drop in yesterday and my yucky day proved that I did not start it appropriately with a comment to OBP!!!

I, too, could rant about ignorance when it comes to some pet owners as we’re dealing with some on this end too.  Not leash related, but I feel your pain on that one too!

Love the four leashes all lined up and ready to go…and the gang too!!

Happy Springtime walks to Henry, Ben, Luna, and Sol…and nice, stress-free walks to mom and dad!!

I can’t help noticing that there’s room for one more leash!!

Some people haven’t got a clue.  I guess because you have four, they figure it is YOUR job to get them untangled.  I really wonder about the mindset of some people, or should I say mindlessset?  Anyway, I know you still enjoy your walks with the pugs and they do as well.  Hang in there and may you have many happy walks with Benjamin, Henry, Luna and Sol.

Corrine I couldn’t help but laugh! I realize the gravity of the situation, and I have real issues with people who say they love their dog(s) and let them run loose on the streets! We take every precaution so that the girls can’t make an escape. The other issue is people with dogs who are agressive-I guess our k-nine friends have learned some bad human behavior!!!I know a few humans who, if they were on a leash, would get tangled up!!!

Leash Dance! hahaha Yes, I know that dance.

I’m adding that to my pug vocabulary list!

Uh huh!!

We still have some residual issues with Gus and being leash aggressive so when some people with their dog see Gus who is straining widly on the leash (but not barking, thank god) they just drop their leash so the two can meet. How do they know Gus isn’t aggressive? How do I know their dog isn’t either?
Some people…

Love the corresponding leashes to the harnesses!

I have a hard time walking two at once…I can’t imagine walking 4! Do their leads get all tied up together? Mine always do that!

I use a two-dog coupler on my leashes (found at most pet stores). So instead of trying to work with 6 leashes, I only have to work with 3 - and yes, I can walk 6 Pugs myself wink
Not that that this would prevent them from getting any less tangled, but you’d only need 2 leashes instead of 4!
I’m like you - I’m loving that the sun is hanging around a bit longer these days!

I cannot imagine!  I live on a country road, not much dog/person traffic happening, so I rarely meet up with anyone, and if I do, they are usually only walking one dog.
I like the leash dance reference, will have to keep that in mind!
Picture looks like they are saying” Walk?  oh yes, now please”

I found if I put the pugs together on a “tripler” and walk the Shih Tsu (Spanky) by himself I have very few problems. I started out with two couplers but the pugs wanted to be together and Spanky didn’t like being coupled to a pug.
