Sol

Sol

Sol has been with us for one week and 2 days now and were are starting to get a good feel for her personality.  I can say that she most definitely came to our house pre-spoiled, which perhaps is one of the biggest differences between her and Luna’s arrivals.  By the way Sol acts, she was most definitely very loved and doted on at one point in her life.  She loves to be pet and has mastered the head nudge of the hand if you even think about not petting her for one second.  She is very much like Henry in that regard.

Sol is somewhere between 8-10 years old and she operates on a completely different pace than Benjamin, Henry & Luna.  She has shown no interest in playing with Benjamin, Henry or Luna even though Luna has tried to egg her on several times.  She prefers to spend her days lounging about, getting in as much petting as she possibly can.  If you have an open lap she will gladly take it, although, she is more than happy to lay in a dog bed in my office while I am working.  She will follow you from room to room, always keeping you in her sights.  Which makes me feel bad because I am forever moving about the house and it seems like as soon as she gets comfy I am off to the next task and she has to get up.  There have been a few times when she has fallen into a deep sleep and did not notice me leave the room (I don’t think she hears very well).  She hates it when this happens as she has to make a dash through the house to try and find me.

She doesn’t jump up on anything and she will not jump down from anything either.  Surprisingly, this has been one of the harder things for me to get used to.  I can barely keep the boys & Luna from bouncing off the walls, so I am forever getting comfy on the couch, having the other pugs settle around me and then looking down and seeing this sad, little face staring up at me asking to come up on the couch.  The worst part is once she is on the couch and I get up I frequently forget to put her on the floor.  And since she follows me everywhere, she immediately starts to whine and make monkey noises and looks at me as if to say, “Woman!  Get me down from here!”

The other great thing is she is potty trained.  Although, you do have to keep an eye on her and pick up on her cues quickly as she can’t really hold it very long.

She gets along with Benjamin, Henry & Luna very well.  She is more on the submissive side which seems to be a good fit for the pack.  So far, she much prefers to cuddle with people over other pugs and when no lap is available she usually picks a dog bed and lays by herself.  Luna and Benny have joined her on a few occasions and she doesn’t seem to mind, however, she hasn’t sought out their company yet.  This may very well change over time.  I think she is used to be an only dog.

Overall, she is an extremely well behaved little girl.  She is not the least bit shy and she is very smart - like the too smart for her own good kind of smart.

Her activity level is a stark contrast to the three fawns of the house, but I like that.  We are not at a loss for active pugs.  She fits in well.

There are so many things to share about Sol’s time with us already.  I will do my best to get some of them on the blog in the next couple of days.  Keep an eye on the Flickr badge at the top of right sidebar for some pics and I will do my best to update the Doing Now section with some tidbits.  I don’t want to make the posts too long and get anyone in at trouble at work grin

That’s great that Sol is fitting in so well and getting along with everybody.  It’s fun to discover their personalities.  Her world has been turned upside down, glad she has you all to help her have a normal, loving life again.

How lucky you are to have found Sol…and vice versa!  It is so important, in pug rescue, for a first time foster family to get an “easy” foster…one like Miss Sol, who is housetrained, well-mannered and eager to give you a good experience.  We at CFPR send our thanks to her for raising you up properly!  And of course to your family, including Benny, Henry and Luna, for opening your hearts and home to this lost little girl who needs love so much.

The more I read the more I fall in love with Sol.  I have to agree with Andrea G.  Her world has been turned upside down, and to get it right side up again she has you.  I think she has done remarkably well in the short time you have had her.  Maybe one day she will play with Luna.  If not, she will be your quiet pug.

How wonderful , Miss Sol is adjusting with the OBP family.
Seems strange that her family isn’t there for her, as she was obivously well taken care of.
Looking forward to hearing about OBP adventures.

I have been wondering about her and how she is fitting in. It makes me sad knowing that someone wanted to get rid of her. Everyone deserves to be loved even when they get old. Bless you for giving her love and the attention she needs.

Her face is so sad-like she knows she is missing the people she was with-her needing attention from you is to fill that gap she must be feeling. I know she will come to feel you and the Pugs have filled the gap-sounds like it already!!

Awwwwwww, I am so glad that Sol is fitting into your house so well!

Maybe some stairs for Sol are in order because of her stiff joints?

She is very much like my Tina and Carmen about the following you around the house thing.  Maybe that is common in female Pugs, mine never leave me alone!

This makes me even sadder for Sol.  If she was in a loving house, why would that person just dump her?  I am so happy that she has found a great spot with you and your crew.  Everyone does seem to be meshing well.  We love you Sol!

It’s good to know that Sol has settled in so well!  When you’re moving through your house now, do you feel like the Pied Piper of Pugs with four of them trailing behind in your wake?

And for your sake, I’m happy about her being potty-trained!

Rocky, Adie and Gully use “Doggy Steps” to get on and off the sofas.  Do you think Sol would benefit from these?
She’s so sweet.  It takes time to adjust to a new environment.  She’s going to be just fine and will come to love her brothers and sister in a short while, I’m sure.

Very happy that little Sol is fitting in nicely! smile My baby Ruki is like that (preferring to lie in human laps as opposed to pug snuggles)

Thank you so much for your post today!  I was so anxious to hear about Sol’s personality!  I’m thrilled all is going well for your household!  Thank you, thank you, thank you!!

She sounds VERY much like Marty.  I can say his personality really came out months and months later.  It is great that she is a good fit with your gang…wouldn’t want anyone’s nose to be “out of joint”!!

Great pic of her “sunning” herself!  I’m glad she is feeling at home.  I wonder if someone brought her on vacation and she wandered off?  If it’s obvious she’s been spoiled before, I can’t imagine someone just dumping her somewhere (although the lady her took her in the first time obviously didn’t care!).

I know what you mean about feeling guilty that she follows you. Olive does the same thing, and it seems that as soon as she’s settled down and snoring nicely I have to move to another room and up she pops and is right behind me…we should have named her Shadow! Thanks for the update on Sol, she sounds like a little sweetie.

Regarding your “doing now” about the bigger sofa, I think that is my husbands single biggest complaint about how many canine children we have now - there is nowhere for him to sit without moving someone.
My computer was down this morning and this is the first I have been able to get on the site today. You have made my heart smile again.

Sol is absolutely adorable! Bless you and Mr OBP for taking her in. Kind of sounds like someone might be considering adopting her themselves wink

I know you do homecook for your crew, does Sol eat the same meal as they do?

She sounds like such a little princess! How wonderful that she’s fitting in so nicely.

One question, has she been blessed with the opportunity to try Baby Benny’s Pugkin Bread yet?? ....be sure to pass along the recipe to her Forever Family!

AHHHHH…I’m so late to the game today and haven’t even had a chance to read the comments, but I have to say I did shed happy tears ready this…(yeah, yeah…I’m a sap!).  Sol looks absolutely blissful on the lounge chair.  I love the gray flecks through her black chest fur…She is gorgeous and I am SO thrilled that everyone is getting along well.  Henry, Benjamin, and Luna are such wonderful boys and girl welcoming in this “stranger” with open paws and love…I’m sure in time Sol will seek out her new bros and sis for cuddling…Lots of love to all of you!!!  Keep all the details and pics coming…I know we are all hanging on every word and photo!!!

She’s got that look that touches the heart. Welcome, Little Sol, to the OBP family. You have gone from being abandoned to being loved by many. PS Are you sure you’re not Luna’s Mum?

Beauty has to be with me as does Daisey, I have been doubley blessed with 2 little pup tails! Beauty has to be on my lap and daisey lies by my side even though we have a large fouton-then one will get a bone to temp the other to leave me so they get my lap! With 4 pug babies-I wonder how that would work!?!
