Snow Day

Benjamin & Henry

It seems like every time we talk to G-Ma & G-Pa lately they are expecting snow in Maryland. They got a little bit of snow earlier this week and they are expecting a lot more at the end of the week.

All this talk of snow got me thinking about the boys and their romps in the white stuff. Most of their snow pictures are from when they were puppies and believe it or not I did not have a digital camera back then. So, I went digging through all of our photo albums and found these pictures of the boys out and about in the snow.

I think it is pretty cool because these pictures are from one of the biggest snow storms on record for Baltimore. Between Februrary 15-18, 2003, 28.2" of snow fell. The link shows this storm as the biggest storm in MD history, but I know they beat that mark in December 2009. But the page above hasn't been updated since 2005. In any case 28.2" is a lot of snow. I remember how the boys thought it was fun at first, but then just how quickly they got tired of it. After a certain point, they couldn't go anywhere unless a path was cleared because the snow was just too high.

Awwww…look at those lil’ snow puggies.  Such angels!  That pic of Benjamin with his leg up is heaven!  Riley was always the lover of snow in my house…Baxter, yeah, not so much…

Very cute pictures of the boys as young pups!  The snow looks wonderful and they looked like they were having fun.  It makes me miss the snow. Great pictures! smile

It is always so much fun to look back when our puggers were younger.  I imagine they would not like the snow so much anymore.

Hi from Northern VA.  With two storms already this week and awaiting the third tomorrow, Ellie could especially relate to the picture of Benjamin with one foot in the air.  If Ellie could, she’d try to walk with all four feet out of the snow!  Not looking forward to the third shoveling of a patch of front lawn so her pugness might be willing to step outside her cozy house.

Hi from MD, our 3 pugs and boxer are not looking forward to another snow. They have to be dragged outside. We actually parked our cars on the grass during the last big snow in Dec. so they would have a grassy area and yes my car got stuck. Luckily our neighbor has a truck to pull the car out!
Read you everyday, your blog is the first thing I go to in the AM. We have a rescue that looks so much like your Luna. Love you, Kim, One Eye Jack, Beanie, Coco, and Tia.

Love the “boys in da snow”(hood) pics! Beauty will play in the snow, as long as it’s not snowing, Daisey being short-haired looses no time going out and in! Heather thank you for sharing that fond memory of Riley! And hope your doing a little better each day! Pug-hugs to you and all OBPers-from the snow covered COlorado3

Aww, I love seeing the snow on their little black masks.  What did they think they were going to taste when they stuck their snoots in the cold stuff?  Vanilla ice cream, perhaps?

Awww, SueS, you’re makin’ me cry.  Thank you for acknowledging my memory of Ri…I wouldn’t say it’s getting easier, just having to function so coping is a necessity.

My dear friend surprised me last week…She presented me with a sterling silver bracelet…it’s all different balls and then blocks that spell out Riley’s name.  It has a heart clasp and a paw print charm…‘so I can always have him with me’...Yes, I bawled my eyes out and, yes, it hasn’t left my wrist.

Heather, your last blog touched my heart.  Yes, you do have a dear friend to remember your little Riley in such a touching way.  Take care, and give Baxter hugs from me, Romeo, Minnie, Missy, Jassy and Frankie.  Sue VDB

I wonder what the ladies would think of the snow? lol

We didn’t get any this winter and I am really disapointed because last year i am pretty sure we recieved about 3 feet at least! Indy loves the snow and Gus is learning to like it. smile

Love the pics of the guys in the snow…I’m not thinkin’ my Toeby would even go outside.  If he did, he’d probably just bark at it!!  C.J. would be off and running though.

Heather, I know you’re still hurting and that makes me very sad…What a beautiful and thoughtful gift from obviously a wonderful and thoughtful friend!  Another reminder of what truly makes life worth living…Love, friends, great memories, and PUGS!  Warm hug to you also!  Take care of you!

On the subject of our treasured and beloved pets:  (With Corrine’s kind permission)  I found this tribute in a book called “Your Pet and Your Health”.  This book sings the praises of our love for our pets and the health benefits they share with us…

Anyway, there’s a chapter called “Will My Pet Go to Heaven?” and this tribute begins the chapter.

I never meant you to be
Dog of My Heart,
But without speech you spoke to me,
Without hands you touched me,
Without reproach you humbled me.
And while I know there would never have been
A long-enough life, or the right time to say good-bye,
I will wait, however long it takes,
To get beyond my miserable state of grief and pain,
Towards warm and comforting
Remembrance,
And gratitude,
For the joy you brought me,
For the truths you taught me.

I never meant you to be
Dog of My Heart,
I only meant for you to mean as much.
But you meant
So much more.
~Lillian Sugahara (B. 1955)

Yes, I have tears typing this…I just thought it was a really nice tribute and wanted to share with you all.  For those of us who have lost our friends or will lose our friends someday, I feel it offers a certain amount of comfort.  Thanks for listening.

Oh my…I am sitting here with tears streaming down my face…Everyone’s kind and caring words mean so very much to me…thank you.  Baxter will get lots of hugs from his OBP family!

Sue, I too kiss Riley every night (well, his picture) and I sleep with his “mat” (ie: blanket) every night.

Karen…that passage…amazing.  Thank you for sharing it.

I laughed when I saw the title of today’s post.  I thought perhaps Corrine had a head injury and thought Florida was Maryland!!!

Heather, what a wonderful friend you have and what a sweet, touching reminder of your precious baby.  It’s been more than a year and I still miss Birdy; I was just talking to Sleighbelle about her last night and that I miss my sweet little Birdy-Bird.  I hope knowing that we are all there with you in spirit is a bit of a comfort to you.

Sleighbelle,

It definitely does help to have all of you to support me.  And I remember very vividly when you lost Birdy last year…I can’t believe it’s been over a year…Life is never the same when one of our babies passes on…

I’m so grateful for the OBP community.  Love to you all.
