Slippery When Wet

Sol

The tile floor in our house gives new meaning to the phrase slippery when wet. If you get a half a drop of water on the floor and are unfortunate enough to hit it in full stride while strolling through the kitchen you will find yourself on the ground in about 2 seconds flat. I can not tell you how many times I have slipped and all out fallen. With four messy pugs drinking from the water bowl, there always seems to be a drop of water on the floor somewhere. And when you have a pug with only half a lower jaw, there is always a trail of water from the water bowl to her next destination.

Since no one has gotten hurt it has been all fun and games up until this point. Someone will walk into the kitchen and the next thing you know, poof they're on the floor and it is all giggles.

So the other day, while I was working, I took a short break and made a cup of hot tea. Solsey, alway eager to get a treat, was standing just outside the kitchen peering around the corner keeping an eye on what I was doing. I took the tea bag out of my mug and took a step backwards to throw it away in the trash can that was behind me. As I stepped back, my foot slipped and I was about to do a full split in the kitchen. To catch myself, I took a step back with my left foot. I had one of those classic falling moments where I almost caught my balance, but when my left foot came down on the edge of a dog food bowl any hope of catching myself was all over. I believe I spun around somewhere in my descent to the floor and the spoon in my hand flew out and skidded across the kitchen. I took the brunt of the impact on my elbow, although I did smack my head pretty hard on the floor. As I am laying there on my back, I look over to my left where Solsey is standing and I see her running over to me. I think to myself, "Oh, how sweet she is coming to see if I am OK." But, when she gets about a foot away from me, I realize she is not coming to check on me, she is running over to the food bowl that is now spinning on its side in the middle of the floor. She stops it with her paw and smells around to see if there is any food in it. After seeing it is still empty, she just stands there looking at me like, "Walk it off Mom, and while your up why don't you grab me a treat."

As I read this my first thought was, “Someone is really going to get hurt one of these days.”  You could have broken something.
Isn’t there anything you can put on the floor that would prevent the slipperyness?schools

HAHA, Oh my. I can just picture that in my head… well, because I have done almost that EXACT same thing! LOL
I hope you are not too injured. Make sure you get some rest.. and give Solsy a treat while you are at it!

Oh no!

Could you get a mat or something for underneath the bowls to stop water from being spread everywhere?

Take today easy, sounds like you really got a good wack!

Sounds to me a new floor that is not as slippery is in order.  It would be for me.  At 67 falls are more dangerous for me.  My babies themselves have caused me to trip and fall, which literally knocks the wind out of me, in addition to a bruise or two.

I did have to laugh at Solsey checking out the bowl; and yes, where were the other three when all this drama was going on?

Be careful Corrine.

Oh no Corrine, that sounds so painful!!!  At least the pugs didn’t have to carry you out on their backs!!  Phew!  All of the OBP house needs to be careful on that floor!!!!!  No broken bones or paws allowed!!!!

Oh wow, I hope you are ok! My mom took a fall like that in the kitchen not that long ago and knocked herself out. I think she actually tripped on one of her dogs.

That is such pug behavior… ooh she touched the bowl, is there food? lol

Corrine, I am sorry you fell and I hope you are ok today.  But, I must admit, Sleighbelle would have done the same thing as Sol: headed to the bowl and then maybe she would come my way to see if mom was still breathing…I have a doggie mat under her bowls, but there is always a drop or two or three of water on the tile.  It’s a dangerous job to have Pugs!

To borrow a line:  “Owning pugs is no place for sissies!”

Corrine, I hope you are okay but I must admit I did get a chuckle out of the pictures playing out in my mind!  I too have a mat under the water bowl (and tile floors) but C.J. and Toeby don’t seem to understand to remain there until the drips are gone!  LOL!

Ouchie! Marley and I hope you recovery quickly. I have almost taken a nose dive or two with Marley under foot all the time. I can’t help but love him even more!!

Oh no!  With four pugs slurping water, your floor sounds treacherous!  Maybe you could do some rearranging or get big nonskid mats.
Falling’s no joke, even more so as the years go by!

But Solsey’s so smart and she sensed an opportunity, didn’t she?  But I’m sure her second thought was for your welfare, Corrine!

Yikes!  I like to joke that if I ever fell, Ruby would come over and sniff my breath, then all around me.  After all, I might have been EATING something.  And that something could have fallen onto the floor during the fall.  We have to keep our priorities straight, you know!

I hope you are feeling okay after that fall…

Hope you are ok Corinne, I imagine you must be stiff & sore today, not to mention black & blue in a few places!!
I am sure the puggies came to your rescue, or to see if you had dropped something!

Hey Sweeties! So sorry about your fall. I’ve taken a tumble or two, once when I was carrying Lola. No, she was not hurt. I did one of those ‘sacrafice yourself for the pug’ things. Still, she rolled and landed on all fours. While I contemplated my injuries, wondering if I could stand, I saw Lola looking at me and I swear she was saying, “What the heck did you do that for?”
~~I finished my last chemo & will be getting the fillet-o-boobie done here in a few weeks. Can I beg a few more prayer?

Hi Kelly,
Have been where you are now 16 years ago and you can count on my prayers for you.

Kelly, no begging required and after all you have been through I appreciate your sense of humor…never heard it called fillet-o-boobie before.

I have added you to my prayer list.  Please keep in touch.

Kelly, of course you will be in my thoughts and prayers.  So sorry you are having to go through this!  But you are not alone…you have all us pug fanatics out here, right with ya in spirit!
