Pug Inspired Vocabulary

Martha wrote in yesterday with a great idea for a blog post - words and phrases inspired by our pugs.  Some great pug vocabulary like stinkles for our pug’s smelly little wrinkles and furbleweeds for the massive amounts of pug hair that we have floating around our house have come up in some of the most recent blog posts.  So, Martha had the great idea to start a post where we can share all of our pug inspired vocabulary.

What are some of your pug inspired words or phrases?

“Pug Rug” whey they lay splayed out on the floor…...like one of those bear skin rugs, limbs akimbo. I love that!

“Pug-tona 500” for when they tuck their butt under (wind resistance) and run around the den as fast as they can.

Whenever we go for walks and pass by yards with thick, soft grass, Bennie loves to plop down, and push himself forward while on his belly.  We call it grass surfing.

Another one came from playing “chase”,  either with us or his best friend, Norman the pug.  Whenever the chaser gets close,
the chasee’s puts on a burst of speed while schooching in their rear end.  That’s the bum-tuck-and-run.

I have had to make up words for some of the sounds Ruby makes.  ‘Grimmeling’ for example.  Snorking.  Snurffeling.  She gives us “run by snottings” and does “pug runs”.  She also plays “Sit and spin” when her behind gets itchy LOL.

When their lip, on one side, kind of tucks under we call that Snarfing.  The girls together are Pugadoos and of course there is no end to the eye boogies in our house!

My girls are “pug-alious” and “smoochable poochables”.

Also, when we are covered in pug hair (every hour of every day!), we say we have been “pug-kissed”.  That sounds so much nicer than “covered in pug hair”.

One of my new favorites that somebody else thought up and recently mentioned is the word “rooing” for that endearing sound they make : )

We call Indy Poopers because in the beginning that was all she did, all over the place. It stuck, so she answers to that better then her name. And we called her Indy due to the racing around in circles I noticed that they seem to do.
We call gus sook or sookie since he pulls of the most pathetic puppy dogs eyes i have ever seen.
Some of their toys have names, bobo for the loufa dog, wuffie for the stuffed little wolf.
I think that is about it…

We use snarfle or snarf, to describe the wet sneeze shower we receive.  Puppy-tear for us is equivilant to pug-tona!
I do like the phrase “stinkle”, I have mentioned that this week around the house.
The phrases are really great!

“Pug Kiss” - This is when you are holding your pug, and s/he looks longingly into your eyes, and snotts you.  It never fails…  You think you might actually get a nice kiss, but no…  s/he has to snot you.  Actually, I think it is hilarious because Abbey does it to my husband more than to me!!

Lola and her pug friend Bella do what I call the “pug hug”.  They run around and stand on their hind legs and wrap their front paws around eachother’s necks. It looks like they are trying to hug.  Then of course that results in “rooing” and “snorkles”. Haha.

Love these!
The lovely snort in the face we call “snot rockets”, the bad stuff when their glans expel “dookie juice”, “eye boogies”, stinky boys, monkeys, sugar plums, and benee’s “voice” sounds like a grumpy old man. We narrate based on his expression and body language…Mostly he says errr leave me alone…or feed me now woman!...

C.J.‘s nickname is Pooh because as Lex said, that was all he did, all over the place.  My hubby wanted to call him Sh***y but I thought that wasn’t a good idea with the grandkids!!  So Pooh was created!  Toeby is my “Googly Bear” because he has the funny googly eyes and C.J. Pooh is my “Pooh Bear”.

They do what I call “mouth jousting”.  They do this high pitched whine and go at each others’ mouths like they’re going to kiss but it’s all play.  They will do this for several minutes at a time.  They don’t bite and it’s hilarious to watch!  Visitors stare in disbelief and wonder “What the heck are they doing?”.  Can’t beat pugs for entertainment value!!

We call it “getting pugged” when my Mom’s three pugs all “greet” (i.e. jump all over) us when we get home or when they all do a running leap onto us when we sit on the couch.  Also, they are my “snuggle pugs” (instead of snuggle bugs).

‘Face-fighting’ is how Giggs plays with other pugs and a ‘pug-nado’ is when he gets excited and spins around in tight little circles on the spot (it’s different than the ‘pugtona’).  When he snots people in the face I say he’s ‘blowing kisses’.

Christine

‘Snuggles and love, snuggles and love!’ is what I say to taunt Giggs when he’s hyper and squirmy and I try to pin him down for snuggles and kisses -it has to be said in an annoying voice.  ‘Face-fighting’ is how he plays/wrestles with other pugs, and the ‘pug-nado’ occurs when he spins in tight circles on the spot -he always does this when he knows he’s getting fed or before walkies, car rides, etc.  When he snots people in the face I say he’s blowing kisses.

These are all cracking me up. At our house, the “zoomies” are racing around a million miles an hour. “Juicy bung bung” is when her rear is having issues. “Dart” is when she’ll stretch out as far and as straight as possible when getting her belly rubbed. I haven’t come up with one for post-bath craziness, but “murderous pug rage” almost fits the bill. smile

I’m finding out that my pugs are not so unique.  The spins, the snots, the roos…All of these must be hard-wired into these little packages of furbishness!  I love it that we have these pugs-o-fun!

Christina

05/15/2008

I love these terms!  I am going to use
pug-nado; that is so Sleighbelle when she’s excited.  I also use snuggle-pug. When she gives me that snot-sneeze, I call that “snarking”, but I like blowing kisses better.  Also, she sniffs and smells at the same time, and I call that “smiffing”, and she is usually “blowing kisses” with that too!

It’s so funny to hear that while all of our pugs are unique, they also have some universally endearing traits.  The world would be a sadder place without our pugs!

When Genghis tucks up his top lip so it catches on top of the bottom lip = “Fooffy lips”

The magic word that brings them running no matter where they are: COOKIE?!! So of course they’re my Cookie Monsters. I also call them my Buggy Pugs when they’re doing the crazy things only pugs can do.

When Rosco sneezes right in our faces, we call that “pug seasoning”.  When he does the pugtona thing we call it “wart-hogging”.  When he jumps off the bed in the morning before the alarm goes off we call that the “pee-pee dance”.  Aren’t pugs great!

Lex

05/16/2008

My guys go roo roo roo as well. smile It’s soo cute!

Cookie is our magic word too, as is kibbles!

Mama says that I fark.  That is, sometimes when I bark, I also fart…  :(

Sophia

My pug, Mooey, does that ‘Pug-Tona 500’ thing, only we call it Tuckabutt run. She’ll run around in circles under the dining room table until she nearly passes out. And whenever we give her a treat or when I bring her inside when I come home from school, she spins around in circles. I call it the Happy Circles Dance.

Stacy

When our pug showers us with snot we call it “snot-cicles”.  And we thank her every time she does it!  smile

We also tell her she’s “shooting bullets”, when she is running up the stairs she tends to let out tiny little farts.  It’s hilarious.

I forgot one more, when our puggie looks super cutie (which is ALL the time) we call her “pug-a-li-cious”.

Jazzy likes to be called all sorts of variations of her name.
like gigi, jazzy juicy, boodoos(i don’t even know why i call her that). when she has her little tongue hanging out (all the time) i call her a little snarfles.when she goes around snorting like crazy i call her a little snorgles.

Pug-Maced
When our pug Shira finds something we are doing midly annoying like kissing her while she’s half asleep. She gives us a big ol’ snotInTehFace. “I just got pug maced >=^O”

Pugasaurus Rex
When our pug usually barks its high pitched(girly) but when she barks at strangers she deepens it to sound bigger or tough. We call her the mighty Pugasaurus when she does this.

There are many more we have used that i cant think of atm. Some that are listed on here like pug hug we have used in the past but never heard it from other places raspberry. Its pretty funny and I feel sorry for those not blessed with one of these dogs.

what about “pugable”? it means hugable. even pugs deserve “pugles” which means snugles!

When our pugs does the running around like crazy with their tails down and their butts all tucked in we call it butt scooting.

When they kind of bite their bottom lips we call that puffy cheeks..

And I laughed my butt off and almost fell out of my chair when I realized someone elses pug lets out little farts when they run up the stairs as well.

We have a three year old pug, Molly, and we thought we were the only ones with “Pug Vocabulary”

Frum-unda Pug: When she comes from under the blankets.

Construction Pug: When she digs in bed, on the couch, in blankets to fine a comfortable spot.

Swirly Pug: when she goes in circles trying to find a place to rest.

Snaking/ Snaking-naked pug: When the stretches all the way out in bed next to you, sometimes she’s naked in bed.

Pug Things: When she leaves us “little gifts” around the house.

Pugs are the best!

it turns out my little Delilah is as “normal” as all of yours!!! i love the terms…i laughed till tears came.

Tosh, my pug, has to run as fast as he can and do some circles before he poops, so I named it his “poop dance”.
