Oh, Deer!

Deer

Friday afternoon, just as I was getting off work, I heard the pugs barking like crazy. I could tell by the urgency in their barks that they weren't just saying hello to one of the normal walkers or joggers that are frequently out at that time of the night. So, I walked from my office to the living room to check things out. Much to my surprise, the pugs were barking at a deer. I have never seen a deer anywhere near the house, so I was very surprised to see one right across the street, just hanging out.

Deer

Since barking at a deer was new territory for the pugs, Benjamin took to high ground, the couch, and barked from there. Luna took the main window and Henry's post was the sidelight.

The deer hung around for about 20 minutes before it darted back into the woods. The pugs were berserk for about the first five minutes, but after that they quieted down and just watched with amazement.

Wow, the OBP household had quite the exciting evening!!  I think that lil’ deer may have heard rumors that the OBP house has great homemade treats!!  I love that each one had their own viweing (and barking) post!!

Sue - how did Jasper make out?  I know you are thrilled to have him home…thought of you over the weekend and am anxious to hear his update.

Andi - sounds like Miss Peanut is no worse for wear and chomping happily as if no teeth removal occurred…love that it didn’t slow her down.  LOL

And for role call of OBP pugs…think you know my gang…Baxter (12.5 years) and Cole (+ 3.5 years…almost 4 I do believe, need to check again when his “estimated” DOB is)...and my beloved Riley at the Rainbow Bridge…

Oh Sue, my heart breaks hearing of your weekend with Jasper.  I can imagine just how scared you were and how hard it was to see him in discomfort.  Him eating is a good sign and it’s clear he needs his momma’s love as he recuperates which I know you are showering on him.  He is in my thoughts and prayers and I will be thinking of you both…Please keep us posted on how he’s doing!

That was quite an adventure for the pugs. I love how Benjamin took the safe route to high ground. I also like how Henry is turned to you as if to say “Do you see that?  What is it?”.

Sue, you and Jasper have been very much on my mind. I am so sorry that baby had such a rough weekend.  Hopefully, the worst is over.  When does he go back to the vet?

My what interesting outside views you have around!! A beautiful deer being enjoyed by three precious pugs is really a sight. Thanks for the picture.

I have had over 18 pugs in my long life (70 soon). The last three were adopted from resucues. The only one with me now is GiGi, a beautiful clown adopted from Pug Hearts of Houston almost years ago.

How wonderful to have been visited by the little deer.  My only hope would be for a raggedy old possum around here!  lol

sue, so sorrry you had a bad weekend with Mr. Jasper…Hopefully, he is on the mend now.

How exciting for the pugs, but how unusual for the deer to behave like that.  Have there been any wildfires farther away that might have driven her away from her usual territory?

Or maybe she had heard about the wonderful pugs at your house and wanted to join their fan club!

Sue, I hope Jasper does better every single day : )

My vote is the deer came to look at those odd things that live at your house LOL!  “Those are the oddest looking rabbits I have ever seen”

Don’t ‘cha wonder what thinking the Pugs go through when they see something like this deer.  If closer, would they run at it or head for high ground?  Or would they just bark it to death?

Sue - I am so upset you had such a horrendous, scary weekend, but I agree that eating is a good sign…if they eat (I always think) they are on the mend.  Keep us updated. We are here for support especially when one of “our” Puggies are down.

Andi - glad to hear Miss Peanut is on the mend (is she a little nut?  smile)

Wow, what an adventure Benny, Henry, and Luna had with the deer!

Sue, I’m so sorry you have such a hard weekend with Jasper.  I hope he’s better now smile  Our thoughts and prayers are still heading you way.

Huckle, you know, Miss Peanut is a nut!  Since she came from such a horrible life before I really thought about changing her name, but she knows it so well so I didn’t.  Now that she is feeling better from getting over all these infections, her true spirit is coming through, and she IS a funny, spunky, little nut!  Thanks for asking smile

We have deer in our backyard all the time eating apples, we have to check to make sure they are not there before we let Sissy out to potty. Most of the time, she doesn’t even notice them, but she has chased them out of the yard in the past!
