Nosey

Over the last year, I have noticed that the top of Henry's nose is very dry and has even started to crack. Concerned that it might be a sign of a more serious issue, I talked to the vet about it during Henry's last checkup. He assured me it was nothing to be worried about and gave us KeraSolv Gel. Our instructions were to apply it to his nose once daily for the first 10 days and then as needed. Today is the one week mark and I am impressed with how quickly the gel seems to be working.

Above is a before and after closeup of Henry's nose. After a few days, the dry bits of Henry's nose actually started to fall off (gross). He isn't 100% back to normal, but a lot of the buildup has started to come off and I'm sure the rest will continue to come off over the next several days.

I'm not sure if you need a prescription for the KeraSolv gel. Ours came from our vet with a prescription sticker on it with application instructions.

Nice improvement Hank…Bax’s crust is similar…which reminds me, time to get out the vaseline!  Kiss to you on that precious lil’ nose!

Also, is it just me or does anyone else think they’ve seen this gel in CVS?  I could be thinking of something else…it just ‘feels’ familiar…Good luck to all the dry nosed puggas!  Winter’s coming…time for extra lotion for all!  (HATE winter skin!)...

Jadey gets dry crusties that fall off of her nose when I clean her stinkle.  It’s gross, but I’m glad to know there is something to combat this.  Does Henry mind having it put on or does he lick excessively after it’s application?  And how did you get SUCH a close up picture?

Henry’s nose is so cute, I’m glad it’s getting that little extra bit of help : )

I’m also glad to know about this help for it.  I didn’t know there was such a product.

Remarkable difference.

I attempted to call the manufacturer of KeraSolv in St. Joseph, Missouri, not too far from where I live, to ask about KeraSolv, but was finally directed to leave a message, leaving information as to business, lot number, etc.  I did more research online and have concluded that KeraSol is a prescription gel.

Romeo has the same condition, and I don’t know how to do anything for him as he is a fighter and will not allow me to touch his nose.  Henry you are such a good boy…will you please talk to Romeo?

Yes, our senior pug Violet had this condition.  Vitamin E oil also works well, just something mild that softens & loosens the dry stuff, and yes it comes off in chunks!

OMG sue.  That news felt like a bucket of cold water dumping over me especially with your fears.  If it happens to be think on this…“Most mass cell tumors are Grade I,” and Stage 0 or 1 and it is no lump node involvement.  There is always the chance that it isn’t a mass cell at all.

Abby is so special to you that anything other than a positive report would be unbelievably cruel.  We are all here if you need to talk.

Sue VDB.  Pug prayrez is good to know and a sight we all could use from time to time.

Hugs and Prayers, sue.

Pug Prayerz was originated by Sorella Mozzarella, a sweet black pug who was featured on OBP, and is on facebook.  Pug Prayerz is an awesome site.

Sue,  I’ll definately say some prayers for Abby.  And for you, here’s some hugs (((((Sue)))))

And Sue VBD, I needed to put drops in Bennie’s eyes when he scratched his cornea, and he hated it and fought me.  Somehow I was able to get him to cooperate when he understood that after the drops came a treat.  Maybe Romeo would be able to stand his nose being touched if he felt there was a “benefit” to him : )

Sue VDB

09/20/2010

Thanks Martha, I already tried that. When Romeo hears the word “treat” he goes nuts.  If I tell him what a good baby boy he is and I am petting him and whispering sweet nothings, he thinks it’s “treat time” and again goes nuts, or he totally relaxes, and then when I steathily try to approach his nose, he jumps up and runs away.  He outsmarts me everytime I try something.  But I am stubborn too, so we shall see.

Sue, checking in late as I get back from class to see that Abby girl is through the tough day and on her road to recovery…You are both in my thoughts and prayers tonight and I will be anxiously awaiting your update once she is back in your arms…Many of us have been through mast cells, as you know, and we know the fear…and the waiting - the awful waiting.  Please give Abby a welcome home kiss from us and let us know just as soon as she is back with you!

First prayers for Sue and Abby. I have been there and understand the worry.

I have used this nose butter product with great results. It sounds like it works the exact same way. You rub it in an a day or so later the long pieces can be rubbed off. No prescription needed.

There is also a product that you can buy at Walmart or most food chain stores. It is called BAG BALM… it has been around for a 100 years or so. It is very much like vasoline. It is in a green tin can usually on the top shelf by the vasoline products… CFPR memebers have been using this for years. just a dab of it on their nose and the crusties will rub right off.
It is is a few dollars but it last for a very, very long time

I have had a tin of Bag Balm for years and used it on my grandson when he had the occasional diaper rash.  I never thought of using that because I thought it might be toxic if Romeo licked it off.  Thanks Wendi.
