Luna Update

Luna

Luna came through her breathing surgery with flying colors. The vet called and gave us an update at 5pm and told us that Luna was out of surgery and awake and looking around. She was alert and seemed to be in good spirits. Her only issue is that she had a noisy neighbor grin

During her breathing surgery they shortened her soft palate, widened her nostrils and removed her saccules.

We also received the results of her CAT Scan. The test revealed that Luna has a prolapsed disc in her neck and two prolapsed discs in back. Surgery is not recommended at this time and we meet with the neurologist tomorrow afternoon when we pickup Luna to go over a treatment plan. I'm not sure what the plan is going to be, but I sure do not want it to be 6 weeks of keeping Luna still. To me, that doesn't seem like a feasible option.

I will let you know more after we pickup Luna. I sure can't wait to have the little girl back home with us!

YAY MISS LUNA!!!  Wonderful news (about the surgery) to read this morning as I return from vacation…She is breathin’ smoothly and ready to be home with her fam!

I will be waiting to hear more about what they say re: her disks…I’m surprised there are options other than surgery when it comes to things like this!  Still sending lots of prayers in regards to this so that she is comfortable and pain free and that those disks heal!!

Love this pic of the Miss, big big smooches to you Looney…can’t wait to hear how your morning is going.  Love you!

Luna, with your spunk and spirit, you had no choice but to come through your surgery with flying colors.  That, initself, will help you feel better.

I am sorry to hear about three discs.  If surgery is not an option, here’s praying for a good alternative.  We all want you pain free sweet baby.

There may be a downside to Lola being able to breathe better and fixing the discs…..she’ll be even more spirited and now you really won’t be able to contain her.  She’ll be in better shape to cause trouble for her brothers!  j/k   wink

We are so glad she came through and will be able to breathe better.

Yesterday morning I received a friend request from Aj Hamon, a sweet looking pug.  I accepted, and later that day found out that at 1 pm California time today he will be sent to the Rainbow Bridge because his cancer has gotten worse.  I spent the biggest part of last night reading a ton of comments and signed up on his memorial page.  I don’t know why this has struck me so hard, but I have shed numerous tears over this baby.  Please say a prayer for him and his mom Shawna.

I Love Luna! I am sure glad she doesn’t have to have surgery again today. I was upset that Rosie had her eye removed last month and is having another tumor removed today. The oncologist found one that is resistant to the cancer meds she is on :(  I thought surgery two months in a row was too much, let alone two days in a row! Lots of pug kisses to Luna!

glad to hear Luna’s “nose job” went so well.  definitely sorry to hear about her disc issues though.  i hope they’re able to so something for her on that.  Our little pug Mason has the same issue in his lower back.  surgery wasn’t a good option for him so we’ve been treating him with regular Cartrophin shots and he seems to do fine.  over the last few years he’s lost most of the use of his back legs but it hasn’t slowed him down too much and we got him a little doggie cart/wheelchair to boot around in the back yard or for short walks.  he looks pretty cute in it.

I could NOT log on fast enough this morning!!  When I saw “Luna Update” with the adorable picture I thought “Oh my gosh, what if it’s BAD news?”...so I lingered on the picture of Luna and took in this amazing little “person”.  She definitely has my heart…after all she’s been through, she is an inspiration for me to always keep going!

Anyway, I’m so glad her surgeries went well, now she has a “Liz Taylor” nose job to go with C.J.‘s “Robert Redford”!!  Am wondering if they can inject her disks in her back, they may not do that type of thing on puggies, but I hope any course of action keeps her happy and painfree!  As always, love and best wishes for this little spitfire pug-love!

So sorry to hear the other sad news today…sometimes life is just SO hard…

Now we need to say some prayers for the discs.

Like Karen, I was afraid to log on this morning.  Now I’m happy I did to hear about “our” fiesty little Luna. Yeah for Luna on round one.

Are there dog chiropractors?  And, Tracy - what is Catrophin?

Sue VDB -  Shawna and Aj Hamon are in my thoughts during this extremely tough time.  Sometimes life just hurts and sucks.  I keep wondering (yet know) what happened to most of the pets in Joplin.  We were under another tornado warning last night, and again losing any of my babies to something like that is beyond my ability to cope.  I know I could not hold tightly enough to even one of them….

On the good side, I think it’s good, Abby had a vet visit yesterday and she has another corneal ulcer in her right eye.  She is now on tetrymicin 4X’s a day, as well as her GenTeal and Timolol 2X a day each.  That’s 8 eye meds for a Pug that fights me every step of the way and I am not sure I didn’t cause the ulcer (the vet said no) trying to give the original meds to her and occasionally touching the eye as she wiggled and squirmed.  I keep telling her tha Luna is such a good little puggie about her eye drops but it doesn’t make much of an impression on Abby.  She just says she is what she is!

Pug hugs from the Swamp Pugs and a very special smooch as well. That’s for you Corrine.  You may be pretty wiped out by now.

So sad, rest well, Aj Hamon…

Sue VDB - Aj’s plight really hit me and I don’t know why.  Aren’t we all so vulnerable to a pug fur-baby in distress, even those we don’t know.  Rest in peace Aj.  Rest in peace.

Whoever would advise 6 weeks of rest sure doesn’t own Pugs.  So glad that the pretty girl did well with her surgery.  Kiss her for me!

I’ve been out of the loop for a few days and was shocked to hear about little Luna.  I’m so glad the nose surgery went well and hope that the back and neck issue is resolved quickly and successfully.  I don’t envy you, Corrine.  Having to keep Luna still for 6 weeks seems like an insurmountable task.  When a Pug wants to move, a Pug moves!  Best of luck with that.  I’ve been hesitant in telling everyone this unfortunate news, but I was forced to give up my precious Gulliver for adoption.  After my husband passed away in March, I moved to a place that would only allow 2 dogs.  The good news is that, by a stroke of luck, I found a wonderful, loving family that was looking for a young Pug, as they lost their 12-year-old Pug a year ago and her two young sons were still mourning the loss of their beloved friend.  Gulliver is now in a wonderful home with two adorable boys, another dog and a cat (with whom Gully has become best buds - they actually sleep together!)  The mom keeps in touch with me and sends pictures regularly.  My heart is broken, but I’m so happy that Gulliver is with a fantastic, forever home with good, kind people who adore him.  Rocky and Adrian miss him, too, but, like me, are adjusting well to apartment life.

Patty B.~sometimes we have to make decisions that are necessary but sooo hard, nonetheless.  I am so happy you found Gulliver a good home with folks that will cherish him…don’t feel bad, it’s just life…

Patty B, I don’t see how anyone can think less of you.  Life can throw us some curves over which we have no control.  The fact you found Gulliver a fantastic home and the fact you are in contact and receive updates says a lot about you in finding him that home.  He sounds like he has made some very good friends, and that should make you happy.  (((((Hugs)))))
