How She Rolls

Sol riding in the car

Sol absolutely loves car rides.  And since she is such a good girl we let her ride shotgun.  Well, she is a good girl, but we really let her ride in the front because three hyper, overzealous, crazy fawn pugs ride in the back.  When we arrive at our destination or when the fawn pugs know they are close to their destination they start to pace and bark and their seatbelts inevitably get tangled.  Sol gets bounced around very easily, so we don’t subject her to the chaos that goes on with Benjamin, Henry & Luna in the back seat.

When upfront, Sol loves to have the window rolled down.  She leans up against the door and hangs her head out the window a bit and snorts and sniffs and takes in as many smells as she can.

The funny thing is that if we haven’t taken the pugs for a car ride in a while, Sol starts camping out by the garage door.  Then, whenever someone goes into the garage she sneaks in and stands by the car.  Oh, and don’t even try to take her for a walk if a car is parked in the driveway.  She just stands by the car and refuses to budge.

Sol is a lady who knows what she wants when she wants it.  Why walk when there is a perfectly good car to take her someplace.  Another precious tidbit about Sol.  I love it.  Reminds me of my BoPeep…she too loved car rides and about a half block from destination she would get very excited and start whining and wiggling her little butt.

Dear little Sol!  Penny is just the same, has always loved the car, especially if the window can be down. We take her for a drive most days and a couple of times a month it’s a long trip to another town which she just adores.  She is always on the look out for cows, gets so excited that the bark becomes a squeak, it’s too cute!!

Sol’s so sweet!  I love hearing about her “special privledges” like this and her pouch-rides!

Bennie is NOT a happy car rider, and we can’t understand it.  He paces and whines and makes the unhappy pug noise.  If I take him in his crate, he’s a lot better, but still disgruntled.  I thought he’d grow out of it, and he’s improved but not a lot.  My son’s pug Norman loooooves the car, and we’ve had them together numerous times, but Bennie never seems to pick up any tips from Norm.

Any suggestions from anyone?

That is too funny!!

I have to be careful when I get something out of the car and Gus is outside because he will leap into the car and won’t come out!!!

That is a fantastically artistic picture!  (with an adorable subject too, of course!)

Sleighbelle

Sleighbelle is a nut for car rides too.  If I am going out into the garage just to get something, I have to be really fast, otherwise she out the door and running around the car looking for an open door!  She has me so well trained that I feel guilty when I am running errands and she isn’t in the car!!!

Martha, I don’t have any suggestions, because Sleighbelle has always been ready to jump in the car; I am surprised since most pugs love the car.  Well, I do have a suggestion—maybe try taking him on some short rides, just around the neighborhood, and see if that helps.  Also, do you take him in the car for fun rides or just when he’s going to the vet?

Sleighbelle,
We take him frequently to the park near our house, which he loves a lot, and it’s a short ride.  And other trips are to our son’s houses.  We’re lucky that our trips to the vet are just routine, so they’re infrequent.  Most car trips are to a fun destination.  I’m puzzled, but I’d love to have him love rides, if I just knew what to do to help him.

Well Martha, the only other thing I can think of, is give little Bennie a pug cocktail and calm his nerves before he gets in the car!  LOL

She is so lucky to have such a loving family!

Oh, Sol just reminds me so much of my Ellie!  She liked to ride that way too!  Once when my dad was “Ellie sitting” for us, he got a very similar picture to yours.  I’m sending the photo in right now.

Sol, you are just so precious!  I wonder if she knows the whole pug world loves her?

Andrea G, I just saw the picture of Ellie with her grandpaw.  She sure is a cutie.  That’s the way my BoPeep used to ride, only on the driver’s side.  She wanted nothing to do with the passenger side.
