Holiday Stress in One Take

On Sunday in the late morning, we decided it was time to have the pugs take a trip to Petsmart to visit Santa.  We were there last weekend and noticed that they did photos with Santa from 11 AM- 4 PM.  Well, as it gets closer to Christmas, the last minute stresses of everyday people grows a little bit stronger.  We got there around noon and we were the only people/dogs in line with the exception of a lady in front of us.  She actually had already had her dog’s photos with Santa taken.  But apparently, she must have thought that she had made special arrangements with Santa himself because they used a whole memory card on this woman and her dog.  (You’d think she was at Sears Portrait Studios with the way she was going through what seemed like her over 50 choices.)

So, we waited for the group of pet store workers in a vain attempt to accommodate her.  As the clock ticked and the pugs grew more restless, the OBP parents also grew irritated.  Santa was on his cell phone (which we did learn later that it was for valid reasons) and the woman in front would not allow Santa to continue with the rest of us in line.  (The line was now with us included 5 dogs deep.)  We tried to wiggle our way into Santa’s attention all the while the lady chattered away about her young pup.  Please, do not misunderstand, we love hearing all about doggy stories.  Feel free to catch us at the dog park, shoot an email, while taking walks, while frolicking on the beach or at the City Center but please be respectful of those that are paying customers and realize that you are not the only proud pup owners out there.  It was really quite rude of her.

Come to find out that Santa was on the phone to see where the extra printer ink cartridge was and how soon it would be at in the area.  The woman was still going through her many choices and wanted to have some of them printed to see if they were blurry or to see what her dogs best “angle” was.  She was a real piece of work.  All the while, we finally managed to get the boys on the platform with Santa.  Luna was another story altogether, though.  By this time Santa was so overwhelmed and really had little to no interest in 3 pugs.  We tried to explain to him that the boys would likely sit happily for him but he did need to hold on to Luna.  Well, Santa is getting old these days and his hearing must be shot because this fell on deaf ears.  He dragged Benny by the neck with his right arm, reached around Henry with his left arm and grabbed onto Luna’s harness for dear life.  By the time it was over, Luna’s harness went from merely a twisted mess around her torso to completely off her naked body and she was a twitching harnessless pug on the loose in the middle of Petsmart.  It was ridiculous.

As you can see by the photo, it was a quite the experience.  Unlike the lady in front of us, we took our one and only snapshot and we moved on our “merry” way.  The boys have blue eye and Benjamin looks like a frantic, if not rabid, dog gone wild.  Knowing that at least some of the proceeds go to pet friendly charities helps the whole ordeal seem a little less frustrating but it is just the combination of the common courtesy and the lack of customer service that puts the Bah in Bah Humbug.  We have been shaking our heads and chuckling for hours now.  Needless to say, this beautiful holiday photo will not let us forget that this has been quite a Christmas filled with unusual memories.

Wow! What a story! However, The Pugs look so good! Even though Luna looks like she had all she was going to tolerate! Hope the rest of the week-end was better for the pugs and you!

Your gang is really something else. Luke and
Genevieve would have been awful in that situation. But this pic is really pretty cute.
I have to say this woman was very selfish and
rude. I guess it takes all kinds. Really makes you appreciate when people act like they are the only ones on the universe.
Merry Christmas to you all and a very Happy
New Year. Ya’ll have really made my days
a little more cheerful in the last 3 years.

The pugs really do look good. We took our girls to PetSmart too to have their photo taken. We also took just our one shot, but the girls wouldn’t look at the camera. We just have a picture of the girls staring at Santa’s beard. Oh well! Maybe next year they will get more comfortable with Santa!

Santa’s lucky he didn’t manhandle my boys like that because I would have had none of the manners that you did and he would have had a ho ho ho right up his you-know-what.

Hopefully Ben, Luna, and Henry got an extra special treat after that ordeal and mom and dad had a holiday cocktail!

We understand your sadness in the picture. We took our dogs Saturday to Petsmart for their photo shoot. Lucky we went early and got out fast. The next dogs in line seemed to have a cough….possibly Kennel so we didn’t stick around long after the picture was printed. Hopefully next year you get a better picture! Glad to see no one is eating Santa’s beard. (Unklike ours LOL!)

Henry seems to be the calmest of the three and is posing quite nicely.  Little Benny looks like “what in the world is going on” and little Luna looks like she is posed in midair, BUT they are all adorable.  Santa looks a little disgruntled.  Considering the horrible experience you still have a keeper of a photo.  May the rest of your week be peaceful.

If it makes you feel any better, Santa was probably just a volunteer for whatever rescue organization was sponsoring the pictures that day.
My husband and I did it for my mom one year before he was diagnosed as allergic to cats.
Poor guy’s nose was running and red like a cherry all day without makeup. He was truly miserable.
I was scratched by a cat I was handing him right before it leapt out of my arms and ran under one of their big shelving units.
PetSmart makes the rescue organization come up with the Santa and they just provide the costume.
You are a far brave person than I, I can’t even imagine trying to have my crew photographed!
Merry Christmas to everyone!

I am laughing so hard!  I’m glad that eventually you were able to get past the “bah humbug” and laugh about it.

This is such an endearing photo of all three! Luna looks like Santa has entrapped her, Benjamin does look wild, and then somehow Henry is able to rise above the tumult and pose like a pro!

Entertaining story to say the least! I happened to take my pug, Baxton to Petsmart to see Santa also. I was one of the last customers and the only one in line to see Santa. The volunteers helping santa were giving so much attention to Bax and saying their oohs and how adorable he is. Of course he knows this, so it added to his confidence and he just sat there with his tail wagging, saying look at me! It went well though, I couldn’t imagine handling 3 pugs! LOL In light of the holiday, I found a live streaming link to newborn pug puppies. It reminded me how cute and peaceful pugs puppies are until they start running!

These babies look adorable, despite the day the had to endure. I agree with Heather, I know santa had a rough go of it, but he would not handle my puggie that way. He’s lucky he was dealing with the sweet nature of the pug, had it been my dachshund and he handled him like that, santa would have pulled back a nub.
Puppy kisses and pugkin bread for Henry, Benny and Luna, they’re such good sports.

The poor things! The picture is super cute though!
haha and I would agree with Heather on having words with santa! One thing I learned working in retail is you need to shake it off!!

Gosh, sometimes people are beyond rude and veer into the realm of unbelievable. The picture taker could have quickly taken care of her with a “Sorry Ma’am, one picture a sitting. If you want more, you have to get in line.” Why do the rudest people get acommodated?? And the nicest people don’t?

Can’t help but love the puggies—-they’re so darn cute no matter what!

I hope you did have a nice holiday cocktail after that ordeal!
Much love to you guys from

It would appear that Santa had a hard time at Petsmarts across the nation!  When I took my pug Evie to see Santa yesterday afternoon, the group was also experiencing technical difficulties, this time dead batteries. While this was being resolved, “Vicious” the pit bull showed up (fully muzzled) to have her chance with the man in the red suit.  Poor Santa was clearly shaking in his boots.  Happily, Evie got her picture taken right before Vicious, we wished Santa luck, grabbed our photo and left.  Evie’s eyes came out the same as Benny’s did, but as I have yet to master the pug picture, I could hardly fault the kid working the camera.

All in all, it seems many of us have had an interesting experience, but in the process we gave a little to those in need and now have memories, and photos, to last a lifetime.  Tis the season, right?

Happy holidays to all, and thank you OBP for making my year brighter!

I haven’t built up the nerve nor the bravery to attempt to take my 5 Pugs to see Santa. And after hearing the ordeal that you went through, I don’t think I’ll concern myself with even thinking anymore about it!
I think I’ll work on crafting my own stuffed Santa and work on the pictures with Santa in the comfort of our own home - I’ll post the picture when that happens wink

I like the photo also…I was cracking up reading your story!  That rude lady obviously wasn’t a pug mom, cuz we know our babes best angles and that would be anyway we can get a shot at ‘em, right moms?

I think I’d have stuck around to see Vicious have a photo with Santa!!

Ok,this may sound tacky but seriously though, I would have let that lady have it.  What is wrong with people??!

And Santa is another one.  How dare he be mean to my Luna pants!

This xmas isn’t xmas to me, it seems like people have really forgotten what is supposed to mean:(

You are a better man than me, Charlie Brown!  I would have ripped into that lady.  Who does she think she is?  Dork.  And as for Santa?  Yeah, he’d be repairing his beard and yanking his hat out of a place it’s probably never been before!  Being mean to pugs?  He isn’t Santa, he’s Scrooge!!

I am laughing so hard at the rabid comment (and Benjamin’s look) and Luna’s twisted harness. Poor puggies, great story and picture.
