High Maintenance

Benjamin

I think Benjamin's wrinkles are one of his best features. Not only do they add to his charm, but they are also very kissable. But, take Benjamin's deep wrinkles and throw in a bit of the FL heat and humidity and you have the perfect recipe for stinkles.

So, when the temps start to rise we really need to be on top of Benny's wrinkle cleaning. If we miss just one cleaning, you can tell. Plus, if his wrinkles get too dirty he will take cleaning them into his own hands and will start rubbing his face on his paws and scratching at them with his hind paws. I hate for him to be uncomfortable so we do our very best to never let them get that dirty. But, it is amazing how dirty his wrinkles can get after a long walk or a quick trip to the dog park.

So from now until sometime in October, Benny has a date with me each morning to get a deep wrinkle cleaning. Plus, he gets one more quick face wipe before bed. Nobody said being so darn cute was easy.

How do you clean his wrinkles? Always looking for a good way.  I use baby wipes.

Stinkles…*giggle*...I agree that Benjamin has the most delicious puggie wrinkles around…wish I could give them a kissy!  Bejamin, you must tolerate your cleanings, sweet love…Those wrinkles must stay in tip top shape!

Paula, I am sorry to hear that Charlie has a cough, but I bet those meds will take care of it lickity split!  I’m sure it’s just from the breathing tube.  You all are still in my thoughts and prayers!

Huckle, my heart just breaks…but how wonderful that Cooper had a good night after his treatment.  He’ll let you know when it’s time…As I look back, I know my Ri Ri was in too much suffering and needed peace from it…I think he knew that, but I just didn’t want to believe it.  It is the worst feeling in the world, but sadly inevitable.  Enjoy each and every second with your love pug…I am praying with all my heart and soul for Cooper’s comfort and contentment and your strength.

I use MalAcetic wipes to clean Benny’s face.  I have been using them since Benjamin & Henry were puppies.  They work well for us.

After reading your blog, “High Maintenance” is so appropriate.  With all the puggies I have had over the years I have never had a problem with “stinkles”.  I need to count my blessings, huh?  And yes Benjamin, your wrinkles are adorable and look very kissable.

what do you use to clean his wrinkles?  currently, i use Malaseb Pledgets.  however, a while back i heard that they were no longer going to be selling them, so i am trying to use them sparingly until I can find something else to use that will be just as good.

I like yourself have a Pug with beautiful wrinkles that get stinky!!!!!!  Tina is in possession of some serious wrinkles that I clean daily, but she still get’s itchy and gets stink face…..

What do you use to clean Henry’s?  I use a warm washcloth and anti-bacterial soap.  That seems to work the best, I have tried many things over the years.

Benny looks like some bread dough that needs to be kneaded.  Yum.  Abby’s wrinkles aren’t deep but I wish they were despite the extra care such covering needs.  Benny is so precious as he sleeps so contentedly in his spot of sun.  Abby sends him a kiss, but would like him to move over so she could enjoy that sun, too.

No matter Benny and his stinkle wrinkles are too adorable!! Huckle I had my Buttons with me till waht the vet estimated was within 24 hours of her passing. I took her to the vet and let her go peacefully-I knew she was suffering greatly-it is truly the last act of love we can do despite our pain. Cooper will let you know when he needs you to let go for him. In our prayers for Coppers comfort and your strength The Colorado 3

GiGi, my latest adoptee, has heavy wringles on her whole body!!!! Use warm water and babywipes to check rhem out between baths.

I’ve got a girl with stinkles, lol. I don’t know WHAT she does to get them so dirty, but she also needs a cleaning every day. And I’ve got to agree…Benny’s wrinkles are JUST delicious! I want to smooch him right between the eyes every time I see him.

Benny has the most wonderful wrinkles smile  My Annabelle has a “stinkle” too.  I don’t know how it gets so dirty and stinky so quickly, but it does.

Charlie and Cooper and still in our thoughts and prayers.

when I first got Abby, someone referred to the stench of dirty wrinkles as being sort of like pond scum, and I have to agree.  Clean pugs need clean wrinkles, I have also found that the malaceb wipes seem to do the best job.

High maintenance?  Yes.
Worth it?  ABSOLUTELY!!

Humdity! That must be the key to the build-up. Pyrite has always need lots of face washing until we spent two years in the desert and suddenly her wrinkles were never dirty and cleaning them resulted in a clean cloth. Now we have moved back to a humid area and I expect that her face washings will need to increase as summer approaches! Thanks for the insight! Benny is a doll, love his wrinkles!

Cheers!

YES!! My pugs need a daily cleaning. EACH Of them. Sofie has had a yeast infection on her face.. and Bentley gets those “Stinkles” too.. it is kind gross..
But I use medicated wipes.. but they smell like flowers.. it is nice. They are good smelling wrinkles after that!
Man, my pugs are high maintenance too!

OMG.  Milwaukee Pugfest was a HOOT!!!!  Woo hoo!!!!  The old girl made it, she is sacked out now:-)

Jade’s stinkle is so big she can hide full kibbles in it!  We use the Malaseb Pledgets too and I was lucky enough to find two more containers at a local vet’s office just Thursday!  Thanks Goodness too, as it was getting bad.

I read on a pug board that if you change your dog’s diet to grain free or raw that it will cut down on the stinkle issue and the stinky ear issue as it is often related to food allergies.  So I switched Jadey to grain free.  Hasn’t cleared it up 100%,  stuff still gets stuck in there, but the stink in her ears and above her nose has REALLY cleared up!!

I can’t imagine what Benny’s would be like if he wasn’t fed such a great diet!  He is so lucky!

Corrine, what’s your pumpkin availability like?

Corrine - OBP

05/17/2010

Jennifer - Our pumpkin availability is none :-(

We stocked up just before Thanksgiving last year and our supply ran out about a month ago.  We have not been able to find canned pumpkin anywhere.  I tasked my parents with searching all of MD for canned pumpkin and they haven’t had any luck either.

We have been using sweet potatoes instead, but it is not the same.

Do you have any pumpkin in your neck of the woods?

Jennifer

05/17/2010

Corrine,
I just got off the phone with our local Hannaford.  They carry an organic pumpkin year round in the baking isle.  I am going to check with the Market Basket too, which tends to be a bit cheaper, and if they have any I’ll stock up and ship south!!

I am giddy with excitement at the thought of pumpkin being available!  If you are able to procure any pumpkin, I will pay you for pumpkin cost, shipping and all that.  Just one thing (and I am sure you know this), make sure it is 100% pure pumpkin and not pumpkin pie mix.

Oh, wait until I tell Benny!

I am in California and canned pumpkin abounds!!  I think it’s sooo odd that you’d run short of pumpkin.

Sarah

05/17/2010

Oh you are so cute and I love those little face wrinkles.  My puggie has a face like yours and he gets the stinkles as well but he hates to have his face washed at all.  he sees the wash cloth coming and runs for cover.

Corrine - OBP

Sue VDB - We are about 60 miles away from where they launch.

Karen B - Really?  What a difference 3,000 miles makes grin

Karen B

05/19/2010

Yes, really, on the pumpkin!  I just think it’s soooo odd that a state like Florida would run short.  I thought there was quite a bit of agricultural action happening in your state.  Maybe it’s the humidity, maybe we should start our own pumpkin vines growing in our yards!  LOL! BUT, say the word and I’ll send some your way!!  We can’t have our favorite pugs running low on supplies!  Sounds like you may already have some “donations” coming your way!  I’m happy to help if you need it!
