Can’t judge a book by its cover

Luna, the brindle pug

Before rescuing Luna, we knew that she had some issues.  One of her issues is that she is missing patches of fur.  Most of the fur loss was caused by an untreated case of mange.  There are other patches of missing fur that the vet can only speculate why they went missing.  In any case, as you can see from the pictures above, Luna has a very spotty coat and the dark areas are where she is actually missing fur.

Now this is only a cosmetic issue.  The vet has said that she is no worse for the wear if her fur never grows back.  It doesn’t bother me and it certainly doesn’t bother Luna.  On her walks, she proudly prances down the street like she has the coat of a Yorkshire terrier.

But while Luna’s fur situation is no concern for us, we do get some odd reactions from others while we are out.  The most common is that someone will exclaim, “Oh, look a spotted pug!”  I always laugh when I hear this one because from afar it does totally look like Luna is spotted.  The most interesting response I have had is that someone asked if Luna was brindle.  I thought this was a dignified way of putting things.

Luna’s fur situation always makes for interesting conversation when we first meet someone.  At first they see Luna and her missing fur, but after being around her for about 5 minutes you no longer see the missing fur.  Instead, all you see is a charming pug, with tons of personality that is outgoing, optimistic and completely unfazed by anything that has happened in the past and is totally living in the moment, enjoying every second of every day.

Gracious!  She looks so pitiful.  I had a Shi Tzu and she was horribly scared on one side of her face.  She also had a hideous underbite.  She really was a fright sight.  I never minded, she was a rescue and I loved her dearly.

I think you should just say “She had a very bad experience with a home permanent…she really prefers not to talk about it”  smile

Our rescue pug has a similar temprament. She is fantastic around all people and lives completely in the moment - as if she won the lottery. And to be honest, I wouldn’t have it any other way.

Luna is beautiful. She has a lot to teach us about the inner beauty in everyone. And, I think that her spots are cute.

I also think Luna is beautiful. My guess you would’nt have it any other way. Lucy, my pug, loves to do that really funny race with the behind down right after we get back from a muddy walk in the rain. She usually has to get a bath after that though…

She is truly a gem.  I wish all the pugs in need could find a good home.  I think after all four of ours have passed on (years from now) we will get an old pug or two that has special needs and let it live out its life at our house and give it lots of love.

I’ve been looking at the pictures of Luna and looking over at my puglet, Chelsea, and thinking that they could be twins!  Their size, coloring, eyes, and facial expressions are so much alike, not to mention the unladylike sitting position.  I had to do double takes of the picture of Luna making that crazy face and the one of her sleeping.  I’m so glad she has a great home now.  Chelsea is 12 and still just the cutest.  She’s a little sister to her step sis, Peanut, who is an adorable white terrior mix.  We are thinking about adding a 3 yr. old female pug to our family who needs a good home.  I’m glad to see it went well for your household.  Our concern is that our girls are older, 12 and 14.  Hopefully, it won’t add too much stress on them.
