Ask OBP #19

Benjamin and Henry

This is a question asked late in 2015 (and I am sorry that memory is failing so early in the year but I do not remember who it came from #sadface). The question was about if the puggers ever chewed on slippers or shoes. As puppies the boys chewed on a lot of stuff (the underneaths of chairs, futon legs, baskets even each other!) And while they never really chewed actual shoes or slippers, they would tear up the laces of shoes if we kept unworn shoes in their reach. Even while walking, though, they would try to snag a shoe lace. Talk about a tough task! Try to walk a straight line while you have 2 pug puppies literally under your feet trying to eat your shoelaces! We are not even getting into not stepping on them or falling over them! Oh! The reminder of puppydom. smile

Any shoe/slipper chewing pugs out there? And we are back live (not really live--LOL) with your ASK questions now. Did you think of anything to ask over the last few weeks?

Do your pugs lick their feet a lot?  Gracie is constantly licking her feet lately.

My Angel got in trouble once for chewing, she chewed up her dad’s Eagles pillow his sister made for him! We came home to pillow fuzz all over the living room! She got banished to her bed in the kitchen for a 10-minute timeout. That was the only time she really chewed up something that wasn’t hers. We made sure she had plenty of chew toys and chewies after that!  lol

Love the sweet picture. My pugs were not chewers except for Genevieve, she loved to chew on paper and then eat it.

Socks, coffee table edges, chair legs, but not shoes!
They were sooo cute!

No, Bennie was not a shoe chewer.  He WAS a shoe chaser - specifically when they were on our feet!  He would race after our feet when we walked.  Especially a pair of pink fluffy slippers I had.

I think a pug puppy is about the cutest thing ever!  When Bennie was a puppy, we laughed constantly!

It has been so long since we had a pug puppy (1963 and 1989) that I can’t remember the chewing stage; however, Romeo came to me in 2002 about 2 years old.  He loved to chew paper, shred it and eat it. My take on that was his previous people left him crate alone up to 16 hours a day and I suspect he had papers in his crate, and he chewed, shredded and ate them out of boredom. He had toys here, but I think the paper thing had become a habit, as he actually sought out paper.

Annie Fannie has a new brother.  Tommy (as I named him) was a stray cat that was probably left behind when his people moved, and took up residence under my porch.  I made an insulated house for him on the porch for cold weather.  New Year’s Eve day was cold and blustery.  When I took his food out on the porch, he came in the house.  He freaked out but did not want to go back outside, so he has been here ever since.  There have been adjustments to make.  Frankie looks at him with that really mad look and they have fought a couple of times.  Annie immediately goes to them to break up the fight.

Feeding time is very interesting.  Annie eats adult food, Missy eats senior food, Frankie is on an expensive prescription diet, and Tommy is still on the food I have for the outside cats who do or do not have homes.  I have to make sure that Tommy doesn’t eat the prescription food and he has not attempted to, but Frankie wants to eat Tommy’s food and that is not good.  Then on the weekend I have Toby, my granddog who wants to chase Tommy (he now leaves Frankie alone).  Frankie, for the most part ignores the 4 parakeets, and Tommy is looking for an extra meal.  A squirt bottle does wonders. I am still working on the most viable feeding solution, and slowly making it better.

My feeding schedule for them is twice a day, morning and early evening.  Tommy does not understand that, so in the middle of the night very loud meows come forth looking for food, and believe me they make you sit straight up from a sound sleep. “No Tommy, it is not feeding time.  You have to wait until morning”. I will be mean and not give in.  He wanted in, so he has to adjust to the household routine.

So at 73 I am wondering what the heck am I doing taking in another stray, but I am happy Tommy is in a nice warm place and will have good food.  My forehead must be stamped “Sucker”.

My pug, Abby, isn’t big on toys but loves an old elf slipper we bought as a joke for Christmas years ago.  It’s bigger than her and she loves to chew and shake the heck out of that thing.  This is her “toy” and when she’s feeling the need to play or chew on something, she’ll find the big ol’ elf slipper and chew away!

She’s never chewed shoes or other slippers.  She does, however, love to try to chew on the cuffs of my pants or try to get a bite of my sock (while its on my foot!).  I understand the difficulty of walking while a pug is biting at your feet!  She loves that game!

It was my question:) Vito is the one that likes to chew our slippers…AND he does try and pull them off our feet while we are wearing them! I can completely relate with trying to walk and having a pug trying to pull your slipper off!!!

And yes, I do have MORE questions…to wrap or not to wrap??? I KNOW Henry gets Christmas presents…as did Benny, Luna and Sol but did you wrap them or just put them in a stocking or something??? I tend to wrap…our kidz seem to like unwrapping their presents.

Aww, Sue VDB, you have such a good heart, to take in one more fur baby!  But it sure sounds like you have your hands full!
