Adventures at the Eye Vet

Luna

Luna goes to the eye vet this morning for her usual checkup. I know the news is not going to be good. Her left eye has very low tear production and despite our best efforts we have not been able to get it to improve. We have been tweaking her drops, trying new medicines but nothing seems to work. There is just too much scar tissue on the eye for anything to be effective. So, we have been giving her lots of Genteal Severe Dry Eye Relief drops to help keep some moisture in her eye.

I'm anxious to hear what the eye vet suggests as our next steps because the drops no longer seem to be working in her left eye. They worked well for a few years, but starting late last year they have gradually started becoming less and less effective.

The good news is that her right eye seems to be staying the same. She appears to have good tear production in that eye and the current treatment appears to be working well. That is very good news because that is her "good eye", the one that pretty much gives her all of her vision.

I'll let you know how everything goes.

Love this pic of you pretty girl!  Good luck at the eye doc Miss Luna…here’s hoping they find a new combo to help out your pretty pesky peeper that has stopped responding.  My Baxter gets daily eye meds too Sweetie…we know how it can be.  My love is with you precious girl.

Precious Luns, here’s hoping something can be done for your eye.  You have gorgeous eyes you know.  Corrine, you certainly do have your hands full.  Chin up.

Abby is on the eye regimen, too, and I know how it feels to go to the vet for the latest update…a real sinking of the stomach activity.  Why do these babies of ours have to have such health issues?  When I need a real smile, I look above my computer to the picture of Luna (a really goofy one) I have hanging there of “Bloopers #1” (9-17-07)and I feel better about things because I can laugh.

I am wondering if there isn’t some ointment or such that would keep the eye moistened better.  It would cause blurry vision but if that’s not her good eye it might make her more comfortable and she’d still have her good eye to see out of…Just a thought.

Good luck little Luna!  My thoughts will be with you too!

The vet should be able to find another cure I am sure. Luna and the rest of pugs are very lucky to have you as their owner. Taking them to their appointments and making sure their medication is administered on time. It takes a lot of dedication to take care of our beloved pugs. Kudos to you!

I know it’s pricey, I’m guessing you’ve tried this, but Abby got diagnosed with dry eye/keratitis etc last fall, and we went with twice daily cyclosporine ointment (Optimmune), and she has had an extremely positive response to it.  She went from next to nothing for tears in one of her eyes, right up to within the normal range, that happened in about 6 wks with twice daily Optimmune.  I sure wish they could figure out how to make it less expensive, though:-(
