3 Pooped Pugs

Benjamin, Henry and Luna

We were literally 3 houses away from home, when I ended up with 3 pooped pugs parked under a shade tree. They knew it was too early for dinner so they were in no hurry to get home. They decided to bide their time until dinner rolling around in the grass and watching the bikers and walkers that passed us by.

As I was standing there waiting for the pugs, the only thought running through my head was "Never walk a pug farther than you can carry him."

They look so content and happy!  Mack, our pug, has a stroller.  He can’t walk as far as Minnie, our puggle, so he ends up riding a lot. And he loves it and doesn’t get left behind at home.

Drools and licks,

Great way to start the morning.  You hit that right on the head Corrine.  Have no idea how you could possibly carry three pooped pugs even 3 houses away.  I’m curious as to how long you had to wait for them to decide to move on.

I love reading the post this mourning it brought back memories of my heart pug Daphne I use to walk every day and take Daphne well she got smart she would only walk to a certain area then sit down and I would end up carrying her the rest of the way

Bella is too heavy for me to carry far - plus she doesn’t like to be carried.  But my Lhasa Apso would refuse to walk if it started to sprinkle on us.  Plus, as she got older, she and I would often over-estimate the distance she was able to walk.  When I would carry her, though, she loved to relax her entire body - hanging her head over my arm - whole body drooping.  A little girl got really upset one day - I heard her tell her mother, “Oh NO!  Mommy!!!  Look at that doggy - it’s died!”  I had to jostle Molly awake to show that she was only resting on the “ride home”.
I have a little red wagon that could handle 3 pugs if they would ride in it.  My dogs never would.  But the 3 together might think it was fun.

I completely understand ... we have had to wait many times! And with 4 - they can’t all be carried!

I think that saying is BRILLIANT! Never walk a pug farther than you can carry him. Oh that was so true with Pip. He would sit down and that was that. He would not walk. Would. Not. Walk. These pugs have us all wrapped around their paws!

Hope everyone had a great weekend and holiday. I ate waaaaaayyyy too much candy. Bella learned she enjoyed jelly beans. Not too many though. Wouldn’t want her to get a tummy ache!

HeeHee   how funny… my mom learned the hard way… never walk a pug farther than you can carry him…  She took Mr. Skittles for a nice long walk, coming back to a little longer.. he decided he wasn’t going any further!!! So they had to stop and take little breaks until he got moving again!!

Lovely holiday weekend, hope it was enjoyed by all!!

I can’t carry Bennie very far, but I have a different solution.  I take my cell phone, and I’ve called my husband to come get us!

We really are Owned By Pugs, aren’t we!

How true all of your comments are.
Ruby Claire has already tried “just sitting” several times and she is just 8 months old. I have a Step 2 red wagon that my Paddy and Quincy rode in when they were older. It has little seat belts in it. I’d better save it for the future.
Martha…....I like your idea of phoning your husband to come get you.

Oh, look at those tongues a goin’.  Great, fitting phrase Corrine.

This would occasionally happen with Cooper1.  He’d get about a mile from home and that was that.  On more than one occasion would I have to rescue my husband by getting the car and go find them.  Yep.  No way could he have carried an 8o lb. Boxer home. I think the pugs just keep the others going.  At least they haven’t tried that trick…yet.

I need info if anyone can comment on this.  Yesterday Georgie got up from a nap, stumbled himself around several circles and then walked toward me, his left arm held up and away from his body. It looked like he had broken it.  I was ready for meltdown.  My husband got on the floor (and halfway onto this huge doggy bed as if he were another dog) and within five minutes Georgie could, slowly at first walk toward me and was in a very playful mood toward his toys.  It left us scratching our heads.  Anyone similar?  If it happens again I will call the vet but right now there isn’t much to go on.

Oh dear Huckle. Do you think a stroke or seizure of some sort. Not to alarm you but I always think something not so good. Is he acting ok otherwise? How is he now? Please keep us posted.

I always use that saying Corrine for the new pug owners in our little facebook groups.  Lilo used to stop at one particular corner on our way home and decided she wasn’t ready to cross the street yet.  Idc how much they weigh, you cannot make a pug do something it doesn’t want too.  It became a regular pissing contest for about a year.  Then after last summer when i couldn’t walk very far, she has never done it again.  It was always at the particular corner.  If we crossed earlier in the block, she was fine.  I too have carried her home a couple of times, usually on warmer days.  Since i bought her cooling vest though that hasn’t happened.  I have to order another one for her, it worked so well and she could tolerate her walks in the sun.

Hmmm, that’s puzzling Huckle.  I wonder if he just got a little muscle spasm or something that made his leg/arm go that way or maybe he laid on it wrong and was all pins and needles like we do.  I’ve never seen anything of the like with these two.  Just the occasional strain/pull that Lilo had last summer and gave her half a baby aspirin a day and she was a little ginger with it for almost a week and still wouldn’t jump up on anything for about 2 weeks.

We will keep our paws crossed everything is ok with Georgie, and continue our puggy prayers for all of our wonderful friends here.  Now though it is time for a Lazy Easter Monday nap.

Huckle:  My first thought was he had laid on his front leg wrong - it wasn’t functioning right (arthritis/fell asleep) and he went in circles at first - then decided to just hold it up and not use it since it was moving right for him.  How old is Georgie?

Thanks for your concern guys.  I’m hoping beyond hope that it was trouble getting up.  I have noticed last month that he would sorta stumble getting up.  Hmmm…arthritis.  Hadn’t thought of that.  One more stumble and he goes to the vet (who probably thinks I’m certifiable where Georgie is concerned.  Oh, Georgie is 6, Mary.  Bite your tongue, Gina (I’m kidding).  Time for some research on the internet.  Gwen, that’s what I thought of first too.  And then the more I thought about the weird behavior, I got frazzled.  Time will out, I guess.

Bella is 6 also and when she’s been laying on my lap and gets down to go and get a drink of water - she sort of stiff-legs it to her water dish at first.  It doesn’t seem to pain her - just has a “catch in her git-along”.  I give her treats with glucosamine and sometimes a baby aspirin and a massage between her shoulder blades and over her hips.  OH!  to be my dog!!!  Haven’t been able to train her to return the favor - but her warm little butt against my lower back in bed at night is pretty good.
She did get her toenails crossed (of all things) and couldn’t put her foot down right one time - a couple of her toes turn in - and another time a joint in one leg got stuck wrong - that scared her and she shrieked and I ran to grab her.  But the massage seemed to loosen whatever was stuck and she calmed down and all was well.  I don’t think a baby aspirin now and then is such a bad thing for them - all in all.  Gives relief, possibly keeps clots from forming and they are coated so don’t hurt their tummies.  My vet is ok with it.  Just another suggestion.

Just make sure you are giving the right dose for the weight of your baby. Lilo is about 18lbs and she was allowed only half of an 81mg baby aspirin.

have you considered a little red wagon? I can’t even begin to imagine carrying Solsie she is rotund Beauty would be easy she is rather small as is Proto, but Bubba-I’d have to start with a wagon! Pug hugs to all from the Colorado 4
