As Henry has been losing his vision, he has gotten away from doing some of his favorite things. It's not like we don't get it. He has been adjusting to life with little to no vision.
We were so happy to see Henry plop himself down to enjoy some sun last week. No matter what is going on, you can't take away Henry's sun time!

Henry enjoyed a red chewie stick, on the night of the full moon for Looney. Unlike, Luna, Henry enjoys all flavors of this type of treat, but we decided to give him a red one in honor of the little girl.

I cooked a turkey breast last weekend and this is where Henry parked himself after I popped the bird into the oven. He happily guarded the oven door for the 2 plus hours the turkey was cooking. After that diligent work, how could I not reward him with a little piece of turkey!

We don't have official confirmation from our eye vet yet, but I think it is pretty safe to say that Henry's cataract has taken almost all of his vision. I'd venture to say that it has taken all, but he might be able to see a bit of light.
The last few weeks have been difficult as Henry has adjusted to not being able to see. But, one thing I must say is he is learning so fast. Each day he seems to adapt by leaps and bounds.
He is learning his way around the house very well. We have closed the doors to a few rooms because there is nothing that Henry needs in those rooms. And the smaller we can make the house for him the better. Plus, its one less place he can get "lost" in. The kitchen seems to be his home base. Sometimes, when Henry gets really confused and can't seem to find his way, we carry him to the kitchen as a reset. From the kitchen he seems to know where everything else is. Leave it to a pug to set the kitchen as their home base!
Sometimes, I think that we are taking things harder than Henry. He'll bump into the wall or patiently stand in front of the window to get into the house thinking he is by the front door and it can be just heart breaking. But, Henry doesn't seem to care at all. He wants to keep going and if that means bumping into things or waiting for windows to open, he's just fine with it. I think we have a thing or two to learn from him.
We are working on ways to simplify things to make it as easy as possible for him to get around. Sticking to a routine seems to help a lot. We'll keep you updated!

Santa hit the jackpot this year and brought Henry a new bone that he not only loves, but he isn't able to finish in just a few short minutes. As Henry has gotten older, he prefers bones that are easier to chew. The problem with them is that he is able to devour them in just a few short minutes and then he is quickly looking for more. This bone, is soft enough that Henry enjoys chewing it, but it last for a few hours.
Henry likes it so much, that we went back to the store and got him a few more to have on hand incase he gets the urge to chew.

New Year's eve was pretty rainy here in FL. And it seems the crappier the weather the more inclined we are to go to the beach. But, we did something a little different this trip. Usually, we go to the dog beach. This is a special area that dogs are allowed to be on. The rest of the beach is off limits for dogs. However, during the offseason, I frequently see dogs on the beach outside of the designated dog area. Being that is was a crappy weather day, we decided that we would go to the people stretch of the beach and just take a little drive (driving is allowed on the beach here). We figured that Henry could ride with his head out the window and soak up some of the salty sea air.
When we drove on the beach, it was bare. Not another car or person in sight. It was awesome! We had the whole beach to ourselves! Henry had his head out the window and was sniffing and looking at the rough sea. We drove for a bit and then we decided that since we were the only ones on the beach we would let Henry out for a short walk. He had a blast getting his feet wet in the surf and trotting along the beach. We only had our feet and paws in the sand for a bit because it was raining, but when we got back in the car, we had one happy pug on our hands!
