Worried

The boys are not in their crate a lot, but the last few times we have come home and let the boys out of the crate, Henry has been favoring his right leg.  He is not completely limping and he is not holding up his leg, but when he walks he is not putting very much weight on his right leg.

This is very worrisome for us because Henry has hip dysplasia and has already had surgery on his left knee for luxating patella caused by extra stress put on his knee due to his hip condition.  Now we feel that his right knee may be experiencing the same difficulties as his left knee had been before he had knee surgery.

We are going to keep a close eye on this and take him into the vet to get an official diagnosis.  In the meantime, we are going to hope for the best.

Getting ready for Luna

New things for Luna

We are so excited to welcome Luna to the family that we thought it would be nice for her to have a little goodie basket waiting when she arrived.  First we started with the essentials, such as a leash, collar, harness and name tag.  We really like Benjamin & Henry’s hemp harnesses from EarthDog, so we decided to get one for Luna as well.

Then we got her a Kong because, let’s face it, every dog should have a Kong.  There is nothing the boys like better than a peanut butter Kong and hopefully little Luna will enjoy them too.

We also ordered a couple of plush toys for Luna.  We were going to order more, but then we realized we don’t really know what she prefers.  Benjamin & Henry have very different tastes when it comes to toys and since we haven’t met Luna yet we’re not quite sure what types of things she will like best.  So we figured we would let her get settled in and learn more about her likes and dislikes before we completely fill her toy box.

We can’t wait to bring her home and start learning more about her pug personality!

“Are You Crazy? No, just a Luna-tic.”

Luna

Well, if it is not obvious by now that we are crazy and crazy for pugs it soon will be quite apparent.  We have been anxious to announce the new arrival of our pug rescue, Luna. We applied in October for a rescue from Compassionate Pug Rescue.  They work in rescuing pugs in Florida.  We went through the process and it is official that we are approved and little Luna will be coming to our home around the end of the month.

We had planned to get another pug when Benjamin & Henry turned 2 or 3 in order to keep them lively and originally intended on getting a puppy that would run circles around them. But after much thought and consideration, we opted to apply for a rescue.  We also thought that it would be best if the boys had a little girl to play with since we have noticed (observing at dog parks and with the neighborhood friends)that they play much more nicely with girl dogs.  (Not to mention that it would be adorable to get a little pink leash and pink accessories.)

Luna is not a perfectly healthy 3 year old puggie.  She has mange and is in treatment for it but definately seems well on the road to recovery.  She also has an eye condition.  In the midst of the excitement, however, I have already forgotten what it is called.  She may ultimately recover from the condition but there is a possibility that she could lose her sight in one eye.

Luna is really what we were looking for, though.  A young, female pug whose life hadn’t been so perfect.  We wanted to offer our home to her so that she can see what a pug’s life should be.  She’ll be spoiled rotten within the 1st week, no doubt.

When we told friends and family they all thought we were crazy to get a 3rd dog (and don’t forget we have a cat, too.)  The other thing that made us know that this was an omen was that our beloved bunny, Lou C. passed away this summer and it feels like Lou is looking down on us from bunny heaven sending us a new “Lu” in Luna.  So, of course, there is no other answer to the questions about our sanity:  yup, we are certified Luna-tics.

The Beach

Henry playing at the beach

Sunday was a gorgeous day and since we haven’t been to the beach in a while we thought it would be a perfect day to take the boys to the beach and let them romp in the sand.  There is just something about the sand that gets Benjamin & Henry fired up and ready to run.  In the picture, Henry is running full steam at Benjamin and putting the moves on so that he can successfully avoid Benjamin who is getting ready to pounce.

By the time we left the boys were sufficiently tired and covered in sand, which for them is a sign of a great time!

Pug of War

Henry Playing Tug

There is nothing the boys enjoy more than a game of “pug of war.”  Mostly, they play tug with their stuffed animals, which means that there are a lot of plush animals missing ears, arms and other limbs in their toy box.

Earlier this month, the boys had their teeth cleaned and the vet mentioned how a good game of tug can do wonders for good dental health.  So we bought a nice rope toy in hopes that the next game of tug would lead to a good flossing.  However, Henry had other ideas and wanted to play tug with one of his new plush toys he got for Christmas.    While playing tug, Henry flashed his pearly whites. Although jagged and crooked, they are clean!

Merry Christmas

After a little debate, Santa decided that Benjamin & Henry have been good boys this year and left some presents under the tree for them and their sister, Cupid the cat.  They are anxiously waiting for Christmas morning so they can open all their presents.

We hope that everyone has a wonderful and safe holiday season!

Playing in the yard

Benjamin & Henry play in the yard

The weather was gorgeous on Sunday and Benjamin and Henry spent much of their morning romping around the yard and rolling in the grass.  They had brought a few of their favorite toys into the yard and we played a nice game of chase and tug with one their favorite toys the ducky.

They also had some fun chewing and scratching on some frisbees that we got at a K9 Frisbee show a few months back.  Neither one will fetch the frisbee. They find it very hard to pick up and carry.  However, they do like to chew on it.
