Smoke

Smoke from the wildfire

I’m not sure if you can see it in the photo, but recently there has been a haze of smoke hanging around for the last few days.  The smoke is from a brush fire that is burning about 20 miles north of us and depending on which way the wind is blowing the smoke and fire smell can be pretty strong at times.  So far the fire has burned 3700 acres, but luckily it is moving away from homes.

Because of all of the smoke, I have been keeping Benjamin, Henry & Luna inside as much as possible.  They haven’t been too happy about that and have been begging me to let them outside so they can lay on the lounge chair.  They just don’t understand that it is not good for them to be outside breathing in all that smoky air.

Play With Me!

I wouldn’t say that Luna is a very barky dog.  She rarely barks at people or cars when they pass by the house.  However, she is very assertive and she will bark to tell you that she wants something.

The first time I noticed this was during dinner shortly after we adopted her.  We sat down to eat and all the pugs were at our feet hoping to get some scraps, when out of the blue, Luna just starts barking at us.  Demanding that we give her some.  Benjamin and Henry almost fell over when Luna did this because they know the most effective begging tactic is to put on your cutest face and look like you are starving.  Mommy falls for that every time.  Barking, whining and scratching, however, get you no where.

Luna also frequently barks at the boys when she wants them to play with her in the yard.  She usually barks at Henry and Henry is very good at ignoring her.  Here is a little clip of Benjamin, Henry & Luna playing in the yard the other night and Luna barking her head off because she wants Henry to chase her.  Notice how , in the beginning, Henry is totally tuning her out.

Tails from the Treat Jar #5

Uh-Oh. This is it!

We haven’t been to our local doggie bakery to pick up treats in quite some time.  So needless to say, we are running low on treats.  With all the recent pet food recalls, I haven’t felt comfortable just picking something up while we are out.  Unfortunately for the pugs, when I refilled the treat jar the other day, I didn’t even have enough stock to fill it to the top.  I will have to make a point to stop by the bakery to get more treats.  If Benjamin gets wind of the fact that the treats are running so low, he might do something drastic and put himself up for adoption with one of the pug rescue groups.  I would hate to see Baby Benny have to resort to that.

Caption This #5

Benjamin & Henry as pup gazing at mulch

I have posted this picture several times before, but it is one of my favorites of Benjamin & Henry’s puppy days.  In the photo, Henry is standing and Benjamin is throwing the over the shoulder, “Who, me?” look.

They are only a couple of months old and they are sitting in front of a flower bed, full of mulch under a tree.  When they were pups, we affectionately referred to this area at G-Ma’s house as the food bowl.

As always, can’t wait to read the captions.  Leave your’s in the comments.

Here Kitty, Kitty, Kitty

Benjamin

The real Calico cat of the house will have nothing to do with Benjamin, so Benny has to resort to cuddling with the little cat blanket that we actually got for the cat.

Benny is quite flabbergasted by the fact that the cat doesn’t like him.  He just doesn’t understand why the cat doesn’t care for him much.

It’s no mystery to anyone else, though.  First, the cat doesn’t like it when you take her stuff.  *Ahem*, you are laying on her blanket there, Benny.  And second, the cat doesn’t really respond well to those that charge her at full speed with their tags jingling and then abruptly stopping an inch away from her face.  Her reaction to Benny doing that is the same thing that she does with any jingly toy that crosses her path.  She baps it with her paw.

The cats favorite pug - Luna.  At first I was surprised, but after I thought about it it made sense.  Luna is usually everyone’s favorite!

Sharing

Benjamin & Luna

Its moments like this when I can take a huge sigh of relief.  We didn’t upset the apple cart by adopting Luna and furthermore, I think the boys like having her around.  I know I sure do!  Not that I don’t know all that by now.  But it is just little things like these that remind me.

Benjamin, Henry and Luna each have very distinct personalities and it is just fantastic how well they all fit together.
