Fashion Forward

Luna

Luna is wearing one of the shirts that G-Ma recently sent to her.  The shirts are a bit snug, but you can’t fault G-Ma for that.  She specifically asked me what size to get and I told her small, but I think we should have went with Medium.  So, Looney, it just that the shirt is a little snug, that’s all.

If you look really closely you will see the boys peering out the front door.

Flashback

This week’s flashback: Wonderful Weekend

The weather has been absolutely fantastic this week!  I dipped my toe in the pool a few days ago and I think we are still a few more weeks away from a swim, but I can’t wait to get back to summer days spent swimming with the pugs.  I wonder if Sol is going to like the pool?

The Anatomy of a Bed Hog

Luna - the bed hog

There is no denying that Luna is a pint sized pug.  As small as she is though you can never count her out and you can’t really share a bed with her.  Somehow, someway, tiny little Luna is able to kick me out of a King size bed almost every night.  I have analyzed her methods and I think I have figured out how she does it.

I am a very sound sleeper and one of the lucky ones that as soon as my head hits the pillow I am out.  Every night is pretty much the same thing.  I start out in my spot, laying on my stomach and Luna crawls under the covers and lays parallel to my body pushed up against my hip and stomach.  I quickly fall asleep and then at some point I hear my subconscious telling me that I am squishing the dog.  So, without stirring, I scooch a little bit closer to the edge of the bed so that I can rest without laying on Luna.  Luna then moves closer to me so that she can be pressed up against my hip and stomach.  At that point we are in the exact same position as when the night started EXCEPT I am a few inches closer to the edge of the bed.  Repeat this process over the course of several hours and the next thing I know it is 3AM and I suddenly can’t fit both of my legs on the bed.

So how exactly does 15 pound Luna keep getting wedged underneath of me.  When her tail uncurls does it also function as a jack?  If my subconscious mind didn’t tell me to move over, what exactly would she do?

The worst part is that as Luna pushes me right off the bed, the other pugs claim the free bed space that she has created.  So to get back in bed, I have to move at least two pugs if not more in my delirious state.  And if one of those pugs is Benny and it happens to be around the 4AM hour I cringe.  Because if Benny wakes up at that time of the morning he is going to be hungry and he will keep everyone up running in and out of the doggie door doing his little “I’m hungry, feed me, oh yay I’m going to eat” happy dance.  Its mornings like that that sleeping on one of the dog beds doesn’t seem so bad.

Dirty Wrinkles

Benjamin

Look at Benny’s dirty face!  When Benny chews, he has marathon chewing sessions.  I don’t know exactly what he does during that time, but his face gets absolutely filthy!

The worst part is that as soon as he catches a whiff of the smelly malacetic wipes that we use to clean his face his belly hits the floor and he hides his face.  Too bad Benny doesn’t understand cause and effect.  If you chew your bone for 3 hours straight, then your face will get dirty.  When your face is dirty I will need to use a smelly wipe to clean it.  Makes perfect sense!

Although, chewing isn’t the only culprit in Benny’s dirty wrinkles.  Out of the four pugs, his wrinkles get the dirtiest and they get dirty very quickly.  I think it is because he is so driven by his nose and he always has his face stuck in the grass or in the sofa cushions or wherever he might be smelling.  Plus, his wrinkles are deep.  We could easily clean his wrinkles everyday, but since he isn’t really fond of the cleaning and I’m not really too keen on it either, I clean them every couple of days or when his face starts to look like it does in the picture.

Blue

Henry

I was having a lot of fun taking pictures of Henry in the yard the other day.  If the sun is out Henry is usually not the ideal subject because he is unable to stand if he feels the warm rays of the sun.  Instead he just rolls around in the grass.  But, the other day he was cooperative and he managed to sit up for about 4 minutes before eventually succumbing to the FL sunshine.

On a different note, Sol continues to do very well.  She goes back next week for her post surgery follow-up appointment.  I will be curious to see how things are healing in her mouth.  We haven’t been able to sneak a peak in there to see how things look.  We thought about trying, but decided we should leave that to the experts.

Caption This #99

Henry

Henry must of had a request for Santa yesterday because he started carrying around a little stocking plush toy.  Looking forward to your captions in the comments.

Resting Up

Resting up

The theme for this weekend was rest.  After we got Sol home and got her settled and I fixed dinner, I was out.  I don’t even think it was 8:00 PM yet.  I was just simply exhausted.

Sol has been resting, but I am pleasantly surprised by how well she is doing.  It doesn’t appear that it is taking her much time to get used to her “new mouth”.  She shows no hesitation when eating or drinking and her appetite is as healthy as usual.  She still follows us from room to room and is always present whenever there is action in the kitchen.  We had burgers on the grill on Saturday and she nearly went out of her mind.  You would have never known that just two days earlier she had had part of her jaw removed.

Seeing how well she is doing just days after the surgery really helps me know that we made the right decision.  I was very worried about her quality of life and that she may never adjust to having part of her jaw removed.  However, she is doing remarkably well.  It is like she doesn’t even notice.

Thank you all for your thoughts and well wishes through all of this.  It really meant a lot to us. And I can’t even put into words how grateful I am to those who made contributions towards Sol surgery.  Your generosity is simply amazing!

Check out the fantastic card that Penny from South Africa made for Sol.  How awesome is that?  Thanks Penny!
