We held a mini swim camp last week and here is a short clip of Henry in action.
Henry really is the only pug that enjoys swim camp. Luna barely tolerates it and Benjamin absolutely hates it. Its a shame because it is such good exercise for the pugs when it it too hot for them to walk.
We held a mini swim camp over the weekend and as I was setting things up I started to feel like the pugs were small children.
First we have to dig out their life vests so they will be safe.
Then we have to get out all their pool toys so they have something to play with. And once all the pool toys are out, we have to watch them all fight for the same toy. I wouldn't know from first hand experience, but sounds like kids to me
Swim camp pics to hopefully follow later in the week!
See that dark line on the sidewalk? That is a caterpillar that Benny rudely stepped on while we were on a walk. I saw the caterpillar as we approached it and I tried to warn Benny, but it was too late and he trounced right on it.
At first the caterpillar curled up in a little ball and I thought it was over for the little guy, but while waiting for one of the pugs to go potty, the little caterpillar uncurled and went on his way. Whoosh!
So, I thought the most appropriate thing to do was have Benny pose for a picture with the caterpillar that he nearly killed.
Meet Smith & Barney! Smith & Barney are two fun pups that we sometimes see on our evening walks. Luna loves them because they are Luna sized and full of energy. You can see in the picture how much more energy they have than Benjamin, Henry & Luna. While we were talking, the boys and Luna decided to take a load off. (Henry is just off camera. Boy, is it hard to get a picture of 5 dogs while juggling leashes!).
I think the pugs are in need of a beach day. I would love to get to the beach this weekend with the pugs, but I'm not sure if it is in the cards. The weekend is already getting pretty full and it is so hot. But, you never know.
I hope you get to do whatever your wishing for this weekend!
Luna isn't very fond of swimming, however, she is a wonderful swimmer. She is by far the best swimmer of the three. Not only can the girl swim, but she is quick! Swimming looks like it comes so natural to her, but yet it isn't really her thing.
Swimming for Henry means rescuing all of his toys from the pool. He has a set of water toys that float and are easy fro him to grab out of the water. After he gets his vest on, we throw all his water toys into the pool at the opposite end of the steps.
When he is ready, he goes to the first step in the pool and then jumps into the water to swim and rescue one of his toys. After he snags one of his toys from the water he swims back to the step with it and takes it out of the pool.
He will then mill around a bit on the pool deck, taking a break from his lap, and when he is ready he will jump back in the pool and rescue another one of his toys.
While it is fun to watch Henry, from the pictures you get a great idea of how Benjamin and Luna feel about Henry jumping into the pool. It makes them a nervous wreck! Plus, Benny always grabs the freshly rescued toy from Henry when he brings it out of the pool.
