After much debate we finally chose a name for our new foster. We decided to call her Sol.
Picking a name was much harder than I anticipated. We would look at her, shout out a suggestion, look at her again, then give a nay. Nothing really seemed to fit her. We eventually narrowed down a list of names that we liked and one evening just before bed we decided on the name Molly. She was named Molly for about 30 minutes while we were awake that night and for about the 7 hours we were asleep. However, when we woke up we soon realized that our friend’s parents have a dog name Molly. We didn’t want to “copy” so we set out to find a new name for our sweet, little foster.
After going through a dozen more name choices we finally chose Sol. Why Sol you ask? Well, the obvious reason is that Sol in Spanish means sun, and the new little girl certainly is a ray of sunshine, but Luna in Spanish means moon. So, if we named her Sol, we would have the sun and the moon.
While that reasoning is all well and good, it was the main reason we weren’t going to name her Sol. Sol was a name that was thrown into the hat almost immediately. But, we always dismissed it because we shouldn’t give her a name that pairs her up with Luna if we really intended to live up to our foster parent duties and send her to a forever home one day.
But, we just couldn’t help it. The name Sol just kept coming up and no other name really seemed to fit. You can look at her and tell she has many years of pug wisdom under her belt and I think the name Sol helps convey that. She is most definitely an “Old Soul”.
So for now, at least, we have the moon and the sun all resting easy at our house.

Guess what? Another dog bed! This one is like a bean bag chair and we normally keep it on the floor and the pugs love it!
I know, just what we need, another dog bed. If you are staging an intervention, I understand.

As 2008 has been winding down, we humans here in the Owned By Pugs household have been feeling the itch to foster. Over the past few years we have created the OBP calendar and donated a portion of the proceeds to rescue groups, but we have never actually done real “hands-on” type of work like fostering. Especially in these tough economic times when many families have had to give up their precious pooches, we recognize an important need for quality foster care of dogs and pugs in particular.
While the thoughts of another beautiful snorting pug and the warm feeling of knowing you are making a difference fills our minds, we are also consumed with “foster parent nerves”. Will the new pug upset our pug apple cart? How will the foster take to the transition? What if we cannot separate when it is time to send the fostered pug to his/her forever home? As you can see, we are excited and nervous all at the same time. What do you think? Any advice or commentary would be appreciated. Have you fostered? What was your experience?
As with most things lately, it turns out I am a little late in posing this question. Sometimes, decisions get made for you. And in this case, things seem to be working out just fine. More to come.
Happy New Year! Here’s to a prosperous 2009!

This weekend was filled with lots of shopping and rushing around to get all our holiday tasks accomplished. It was all quite tiring, so I was so happy to get a chance to crash on the couch with the pugs and watch some football. Before getting up to snap the picture and get dinner ready, I was curled up under the orange blanket enjoying a few moments of peace and quiet.
How was your weekend?

I am so glad to hear that Dylan from Pug NYC is doing much better than he was earlier in the week. He gave his Mom & Dad quite a scare earlier in the week, but tonight when I checked in I was so relieved to see that Dylan was home and on the road to recovery. Dylan, we wish you all the best!

The pugs’ bed in the living room was pretty much on its last leg so when I saw this huge bed last weekend I couldn’t pass it up. The pugs seem to like it OK and it is good to know that if we ever adopt a mastiff or 5 more pugs there will be plenty of space for them to lay around. Heck, when the pugs crowd me in bed at night I might just come and sleep on this!

By Sunday afternoon, G-Ma, G-Pa and Aunt Cayce were all headed home. It was a wonderful visit and the pugs and Cupid were more spoiled than ever during the week.
I was missing them as soon as they left and being curled up on the couch with the pugs watching some football was just what I needed. Benjamin and Luna, however, commandeered the Redskins blanket.
