Henry is the only pug in the house that can hear. Benjamin and Luna are not completely deaf, but their hearing abilities have been described as "dull". In this process, we have been focusing on Benjamin and Luna and have been trying to help them cope with their now quiet world. Benjamin and Luna have been adapting to this change pretty well. The one having the most difficulty with the situation, much to our surprise, is Henry.
The pugs have always had each other's backs. If one of them barks, the other two come running, full steam ahead, barking their heads off even though they have no idea what they are barking at. And when the trio is together and hear something a choir of barks breaks out.
But, now that Henry is the only one that hears, he is really the only one that barks. And when he barks he doesn't have his two buddies coming to back him up. As a result, Henry thinks he is going crazy!
He hears something, barks, then looks around for Benny and Luna. Usually they are nearby, lounging or chewing. Essentially, doing anything other than responding to whatever noise Henry hears. Henry then begins to question his own hearing. He looks around wondering if the noises are only in his head.
The Fourth of July was a very interesting experience. Usually, there is a lot of barking in the OBP household on that night. However, there was not a peep from Benjamin and Luna since they could not hear the fireworks going off outside over the television. Henry, on the other hand, could hear the fireworks and was looking around, like what is going on here? Am I the only one hearing these booms?
And the other day, the neighbor's dog was barking, which normally sets the pugs off. Henry jumped up, ready to give his canine neighbor the what for with his brother and sister, but Benjamin and Luna never budged. Henry was left standing on guard wondering if the barking he heard was real or just in his head.

Have you ever noticed that if I post a shot of Luna hanging out with one of brothers, it is always Henry?
Don't get me wrong. Luna likes Benny, but she simply adores Henry. If a human lap is not available, she will always seek out Henry and lay next to him. If a lap is available, she will totally ditch him.

Things are hot enough here in FL that we have been jumping in the pool to cool down the last few weeks. We got new rafts this season as our old rafts had about as much sun and pug fun as they could handle. The pugs designated Henry to be the official raft tester and I think he is giving a thumbs up for this one. He looks as if he is about to fall asleep, so I would say this one is pretty comfy.

None of the pugs like sit on the tile floor in the kitchen, so they always pick a rug. In this case, the rug by the stove was closest to the yummy smell coming from the counter and Luna didn't want to take a seat further away. So, she just nudged her way onto the rug and told her big bro to move on over!
Sitting side by side you can really notice the size difference between Henry and Luna. Henry is sorta slouching in this picture and he is still a head taller than Luna. What Luna lacks in size she makes up for in feistiness.

Memorial Day greetings from Benjamin, Henry and Luna!
The pugs celebrated Memorial Day by visiting one of their favorite parks and sniffing and enjoying the shade cast by trees planted in honor of veterans. I was very proud of them because they were very respectful and just sniffed the trees planted to honor the veterans. The others…well, those were free game.

Three stinky pugs all corralled and ready to get scrubbed up.
As usual, Benjamin is most interested in what is going on with the drain. Every since he was a pup he has had an odd fascination, or fear, of drains and sewers. As a pup he couldn't even walk past a sewer without his belly hitting the ground out of fear. He has gotten a lot better over the years, but he still takes a wide berth anytime he comes near a sewer.

A meeting of the distinguished pug club under the boy's favorite tree. And also a rare glimpse of Henry, the sun loving pug, hanging out in the shade.
While taking this picture, I had a flashback of the two little puppies these boys once were. I quickly snapped back to reality and realized that if the boys were the puppies they once were, this scene would never happen. Surely, one of them would be bouncing around and Benny would probably be tugging on a hunk of Henry's face wrinkles. It is fun to see old men this pair have become. They may not be as spry as they once were, but they are still as thick as thieves.
