After a long work week, the weekend got off to a fantastic start Friday evening by spending quality time in the yard with the pugs and Cupid. We soaked up what was left of the sun and enjoyed the perfect weather. I can't think of a better way to unwind.
And, of course, Benjamin brought puffy out in the yard too!

Double door duty is in place today. No one will make it by the house without hearing the "menacing" bark of the pug pack.
They sure do think they are tough. If they only knew the reaction of most people that pass by is, "Aww,look at the pugs!"

The weather was perfect for pugs on Saturday, so we went for a nice long walk. It was a windy day and Benny was loving it. Windy days are his favorite because all kinds of smells just come to him. He will just sit with his nose up in the air smell, smell, smelling.
We walked for about a mile and when we got home Benjamin and Luna were ready for a nice long nap.
How was your weekend? Any pug fun?

These two little pugs are coming up on their 10th birthdays soon. By my rough estimation they have spent about 3,520 days together so far. It shows. Benjamin and Henry are as thick as thieves. They can pretty much finish each others thoughts by now.
I love to look back at their puppy pictures, like the one from last week's post, and see what they have become. They have changed a lot over the years, but one thing has always remained the same - it has always been Benny & Henry. They have always been the boys.

Right after I snapped this picture, I awoke Benny from his slumber when I planted a big kiss on his forehead. Luckily, he doesn't really mind. He is used to be being smothered with kisses.
Benny is just happy not to have to wear his cone of shame.
Have a wonderful weekend!

In reading some of the comments to the recent Beach Friends post, I noticed that there was a comment about how the term wiener was not a preferred term for Dachshund. Trust me, I am cool with that. With that said, I must share some history of the pugs with the Dachshunds.
Our latest trip was to Ponce Inlet dog beach where the pugs met not one but two Dachshunds. They were shown in photos in previous posts. The female Dachshund was named Sweetie. The other dog's name was Oscar. A la "Oscar Meyer Wiener".
Both of these Dachshunds were very pleasant dogs. But, rewind to almost a decade ago (how scary is that to say?!). When the boys were young, we would occasionally take them to doggy day care to get their energy expelled since at this rare moment in history, neither of us worked from home. I began working from home when they were still puppies but not yet at this point.
Anyway, we took them to a place called Ana's Ark Doggy Daycare (I believe they are still in business under a different name). This was while we still lived in Maryland. The doggy daycare had web cams so you could see what was going on in the life of your beloved fur ball. Well, mostly when we spied we would see Benjamin peeing on all the toys. However, there were only one or two beds in the corral and these would be coveted by all the other small dogs that were not the owners own 2 small Dachshunds as her two dogs pretty much never left these precious soft thrones. One of the dogs was named Gus.
Gus was a territorial bully. Gus would regularly ensure that no dog (especially no flat faced pug) was going to sleep on his pillow (or play with his toys, or stand in his space or drink from his water bowl, etc, etc, etc). So, whenever the boys would try to do any of those things, Gus would stand in front of the toys or water bowls or pillow or whatever and growl, bark or nudge the boys out of the way. Benny would back down and sulk away disappointed, but not Henry. Henry, of course knowing this was not ok, would nudge back or sneak around to try to get his way. This would make Gus a bit fiercer and often Ana, the owner, would eventually have to step in and remind the long dog to do the right thing. She did so with a stern toned, "Gus! Be Good!!"
This upset Henry probably more than it did Gus. I think Henry thought that he was the one getting hollered at. (Yikes) This went on for a few weeks. It really shook Henry up. But our guilty pleasure at home would be to randomly yell "Gus! Be Good!" and watch Henry stand at attention. He shuttered at the name Gus for years to follow.
Even now we can still catch him on it on a "good" day. The rest of the time, he no longer flinches.

There were lots of young pups at the beach last Saturday. The pugs made friends with 2 wiener dogs, a golden retriever, a husky and a black lab. The pugs were by far the oldest dogs on the beach. At almost 10 the boys were more than double the age of the oldest non pug on the beach. The husky was only 9 months old and after watching her run all over the beach I realize I have forgotten how much energy is crammed into a puppy body.
While the boys could not keep up with the husky or the golden, I was glad to see them get in the mix a few times. Henry used his smarts and pounced on the golden in one of their games of chase. After that victory, he was content to watch all the other dogs run around. I think he wanted to go out on top and just prove to himself that he still has it.
Which is better than what Benny did. After chasing the husky and golden to no avail, Benny just stopped and whined at them.
But, Luna, at almost 8 was in the mix of everything. And this picture pretty much sums up her feisty personality. She loves nothing more than to play with the little dogs, but she isn't afraid to mix it up with the big dogs. And the thing that surprises everyone is how fast Luna is. She can really pour it on when she wants to.
