Last week the pugs made a trek to the vet. Each was visiting for various reasons (more on that later). Benny was in to have blood work done. We got the results a few days later and everything looked normal except his thyroid is a little low. When I got the news, I thought this explains a lot.
Benny has slowed down a lot lately. Granted he is 10 now, but compared to Henry he is a complete couch potato. He also seems to have picked up a pound to two (or maybe three) and his feeding routine has not changed at all.
I chalked it up to him getting older, but his thyroid could certainly play a part in all of this. Don't get me wrong, his age probably plays the biggest factor in his recent energy level and unexpected weight gain, but getting his thyroid back to normal levels will certainly help.
Benny boy heads back to the vet in about 6 weeks for another blood test to see if the dosage for his meds is correct and to see if his thyroid function has improved to normal levels with the help of his medicine.

Sunday finally arrived and it was the anticipated 1000 Pugs photo shoot day at the Wynwood arts district in Miami. Seriously, I can not tell you how excited I was for our photo shoot. It was so much fun!
Benjamin took an immediate liking to Amanda, the 1000 pugs photographer. It didn't hurt that she had a trunk full of treats and that she has a treat pouch attached to her waist. All 3 of the pugs were parked at her trunk while she loaded up her pouch with goodies.
The pugs took turns posing for Nikon and Benny got to go first. At first, he was all over the place. He was having a little bit of trouble concentrating because there were treats that he felt he needed to rescue from the treat pouch. But, he eventually settled in and struck his best super model poses.
It was so much fun for me to watch Amanda work with Benny and see a few of her photographer tricks. It was also neat to watch Benny. There were a few times I thought, he never does that for me!

Perturbed Benny is perturbed because not only did he get a bath, but he got dried off in the pink towel.

During his 10% play time, Benny sometimes likes to wiggle around on his back and entice you into give him a big belly rub. And who can really resist. The boy can really turn on the charm when he wants something.
Have a great weekend!

Benny's birthday inspired us to take a trip down memory lane and look at some of the pictures of the boys when they were pups. When we came across this picture we were beside ourselves with laughter.
When we lived in MD, we frequently went to G-Ma & G-Pa's house. G-Ma always had new toys and treats each time the pugs came to visit. One time, she was so excited because she got the pugs a small, blow up pool that she thought would be a perfect way for the pugs to cool off a bit after they got done chasing each other around the tree. She thought it would be great because the pugs would be able to jump in and out, splash around and keep cool.
When we arrived we headed out to the yard and she proceeded to get the pool out of the packaging and blow it up. Well, we were all in stitches when the awesome pool turned out to only be about 12 inches in diameter. A closer look at the packaging revealed that it was some sort of Barbie Doll pool.
The boys were still super excited that G-Ma had gotten them a new toy. To them, it was the best outdoor water bowl they ever had!

Today, Baby Benny, hits double digits! The big 1-0.
Benny's approach to life has always been play hard, sleep hard and he still lives by those rules today. The only difference is he is now about 10% play 90% sleep.
He may have grayed a bit and put on a few extra pounds, but he is still the same old, lovable Baby Benny that is never far from his puff and always looking for pillows to fluff!
Happy Birthday, Benny Boy!
